Was that a pre-fab building, or did you build that from scratch? Nice camp!

Actually BSK, I designed this cabin at a kitchen table (at home) 5 hours away from the land in Illinois. Then I went to Lowes, Home Depot, a couple other lumber yards with the materials list and got the best price on all the materials involved with wood and siding.
THen I got the metal roof bids.

Then went to a couple demolition sites and salvaged lights, outlests, switches, sink, and miscelaneous other stuff.

Then I designed the pump (RV type with 12 volt converter) as well as the sump pump to fill the water tanks (toilet, shower, sinks).

Then, one day in Spring of 2001, we all loaded up our trucks and tandem trailers, tools, generators and supplies, and headed to Illinois. It took 4 days to clear and get the 4 corners and floor joists built.

We were finished by Fall for hunting season after several trips.

It is 4.5 hours from home.

THe gambrel for hanging the deer was built in a day.

I am a carpenter for my side job.

Well that helps!

Very cool homegrown camp.

No, but in November, much of the family almost does! We're probably there more days than we're not.

We've had a bunch staying there during Thanksgiving. As for actual beds, it's equipped for around 15, but we have sleeper sofas and window beds enough to sleep at least 20.

BSK, I'm adding more beds to my place now that I have 6 grandkids...interested to know what it is you are calling a window bed?

Coach,

A window bed is a long, wider than normal "couch" seat, built along an outer wall usually directly under a series of windows, that doubles as a bed. These can also be built hollow so they can be used for storage under the large single cushion.
