Was wondering what kind of noise you make to stop a deer. Do you whistle, grunt, holler hey or maybe even make a kissing sound. Or do you feel confident making a shot on a moving deer (close range of course). Mostly talking about archery or crossbow hunting. Have you ever had a deer run for the hills because you tried to stop him with a sound and he spooked?

None unless they are running. With a bow, I want them moving if no faster than a trot. With a gun, unless they are running, I don't try to stop them. If they are running, I just holler loud as I can.

Usually a baaaaa but I have just hollered , worse shots I have ever made was because I didn't stop them and shot them in the low shoulder . But if they don't stop it will not stop me from shooting though just prefer them to stop .

I've never tried a noise out fear the noise would cause them to run even faster. I just shoot.

x2

With a bow,I would much rather shoot them walking than "wired up" after hearing a fake noise. Watch the slo-mo when the TV gurus do it. About 90% of the time when the deer stops the ears are turned toward the sound and they tense up. Then, at the sound of the arrow being released, they drop 18-20" and start wheeling to run. That, IMO, is one of the reasons you see some of the TV heros make some really bad hits.

You need to remember that even with the super fast bows of today, they AREN'T faster than the speed of sound, and if they are tensed up they can and will make a lot of movement before the arrow gets there.

I'll take my chances on holding a little forward on a relaxed deer rather than dealing with the drop and whirl on one of those amped up devils.
