To prepare for deer season is something I have been struggling with and losing the struggle the last few seasons. Normally I have cameras everywhere, been scouting all summer, and shot countless numbers of arrows in preperation for the season. I haven't even shot my bow yet this year. I think about hunting year round, but just do not have the drive I used to. The first few cool days and signs of fall finally motivate me, but by then it's almost too late. I have two young daughters that take up most of my time, but I used to MAKE time for my hunting. I feel too worn out to do it like I used too. Guess I'm not as young as I used to be.
I wish the fire would reignite. Anybody else have this issue?

Yes. For me, it appears to be driven by age; i.e. changing desires with advancing age.

That doesn't mean I've lost interest in deer hunting. I'm just not as obsessed with it as I used to be. I'll do it and enjoy it when conditions are best, but I'm no longer driven to go every chance I can, or to make the time to go.

Worse yet, I feel 20 years older than I actually am. \:\(

I have even more ambition to hunt and the motivation to be afield more at an older age than 20 years ago. I am 46 now and have been getting into the woods much more lately with scouting and gineng hunting.
Don't let the major prep work get you down. Some years you simply can't do as much because of schedules, work, or family. No big deal. Just get out when you can and hunt when you can. Just enjoy your family first and the outdoors will fit itself in.
Season is long in TN and the first part is mostly dull. Work toward a few days outdoors hunting in November and the biggest deer of your life may be killed in only a couple hunts.
Good Luck.

The outdoors will ALWAYS be waiting for you so put Family First.

Mike D could not have said it any better. Working 5 days a week not getting home till 6:00. My kids 5/9 go to bed at 8:30. By the time we eat, talk about school/homework and shower it's bedtime. My number 1 priority on the weekend is family/church. I have stopped bow hunting, but I do find time to muzzle/rifle and love every minute I spend hunting.

I think much of the deer hunting is driven by age. I still love it but as mentioned, the obsession has dwindled. Where I hunt we can't step foot on the property between closing and opening seasons so there's no interaction throughout the year as in other places I've hunted. I'm not as pumped as I used to be for getting there the first day possible and looking around. Before the reason for doing so was to get started. Now it's to make sure you can kind of claim a spot before someone else does (even though we can't tie up an area). Still, at the right time of the year I can't imagine not being in a stand.

I think it's just called "LIFE"....it gets in the way sometimes. Priorities, work, and kids definitely have a way of making time fly by. I've actually seen plenty of guys get back into it after the kids leave or after retirement.
