Went to check a camera I'd placed just off a soy field on Percy. On the walk, I almost stepped on a huge sleeping Timber Rattler. Scary. After I gained my composure, I went on to the camera only to find that it had been stolen. Frustrating. It was my first camera, so I'm a little bummed. Just venting.

Public land adds a whole new element in placing cameras. Sorry that happened man.

It's also illegal (on WMAs) without approval from the Area Manager.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that. Wouldn't put one on public land anyway, but good to know.

May check with the Area Manager to see if they removed your camera. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Oh, man! I had no idea! Where do I check to see who the area manager is? If I'm going to get a ticket, I guess I could just let him have the thing if the ticket costs more than the camera! Ha! It would feel a heck of a lot better if it was confiscated, though. Thieves are just depressing!

Snakes suck!!! Out of curiosity do u guys lock ur cameras to the tree? Havent tried placing one in ky or tn yet but back west I always get a cheap bike chain abd a master lock to lock it to the tree. All mine have spots to put locks on and could easily be cut threw with a Gerber, not even a bear box can fully protect one from a bullet if u found someone motivated enough to destroy or steal it. But just something simple to discourage has worked with my experience anyway. Or the manufactures recommendation of putting it up out of human hand reach and out of most line of site and at a proper downward angle. Not trying to under mind any one, just being ur first camera you may not know. Just tryin to help.

I didn't know that about the angles and height. I appreciate you letting me know! It wasn't locked. I was so excited to get it (it was a birthday present), that I went out to place it right away. Never even crossed my mind.

Thanks, TNDeerGuy! I'll call him tomorrow.

SCN, any advice on pleading my ignorance?

Hey, I had a camera stolen off of Percy last year... I had it hid really well too. I did not know though that it's illegal!
