Yes, Radar. All of the homebrews made with P41 or S40 cameras can be programmed to print the date and time on the picture. The pictures I posted had them, but those are actually not the full pictures. Those are cropped sections of the original pictures.
And that's the truly amazing part. Those crisp, clear pictures I posted are only small sections of the original pictures. The pictures from my homebrews are so clear I can zoom into the images and see individual ticks in a deer's ear. In fact, I identified one particular buck as a "unique" buck because he has a small wart just below his right eye.

You won't be sorry Hayes.
And for those using homebrews, I used to use 2650 nAh rechargeable AAs. I could get two, maybe three weeks out of a pair of those in the camera. However, this year I'm testing the lithium AAs in the cameras. So far, I'm very impressed. After 4 weeks the cameras are still show full power. I'll be curious how long they last.
It is more expensive to buy the lithiums, as you need a new set each time compared to the rechargeables than you buy once and use over and over. But if you suspect you won't be able to get back to your cameras for awhile, the lithiums are definitely the way to go.

OutdoorBob7 sells a P41 unit, either wide-angle fresnel (wide cone of sensitivity) or narrow-angle fresnel, for $360. His units with extra battery power are $390.

I wouldn't call it a "problem" but just the variability of Nature. Some bucks are genetically pre-programmed to only be 6-pointers.

There's no real answer. About the best in my opinion homebrew camera is the P41. It cost me around $300 in materials to buy everything, and then I sell them for $360. Let me say this too, I use the SSS which is a more expensive board. Many people sale this same camera for $450 while using less expensive, less user friendly control boards. That's why I've alienated myself to a lot of camera sellers. You can on the other hand build other cameras a lot cheaper. A p32 can be build for around $225 to $250. So can a S40. You can build an Olypus D370 or D380 for about $175, but the memeory sticks are no longer made and may have to pay $60 to $70 for a 64mb card. As in everything, you can put into it what you want to. Use cheaper boards, non-camo cases, cheaper cameras and build a pretty decent camera for $175 or so. They'll certainly outperform the commercial cams too. I sale the Lexus of homebrews. That's the combination of the Snapshotsniper (SSS) and the Sony P41. Hope this helps. Bob

That IS awesome BSK! I'll probably have to break down and buy one myself for next year.

that some awesome pics. what is homebrews?
leebowhunts,
"Homebrew" trail-cameras are hand-made systems not sold by commercial trail-camera companies. Most commercial trail-cam makers build their own imaging systems into their units. A homebrew trail-cam uses a production digital camera wired directly to the sensing/triggering system.
Since commercial trail-cam makers build their own imaging system, the build them with the cheapest parts they can find. These imaging systems take poor-quality pictures compared to the high-end production digital cameras used in a homebrew.
Check out Bob's prebuilt homebrews at:

Yes, some of the bucks have already put on their winter coats. Bucks do this before does because they have other important resources their bodies must work on soon (body fat deposition and muscle-building for the rut).
