I think some misunderstood my feelings towards Johnnyfootball.
I personally don't give a rats rump whether he succeeds or not. I was more stating that the NFL season is two weeks into PRE-SEASON of his rookie year. Most rookie QB's have not set the world on fire at this point in their NFL career.
Living in a glass house myself, I choose not to throw stones. \:\)
I will say this: IF[big if] he succeeds he will be fun to watch, but as I'm not a Browns fan It really doesn't matter to me.

I've never understood why rookie QBs (or any rookie athlete) like Manziel, Brady Quinn, RG3, etc got a lot of attention before the regular season started. Sure, they were great in college. But they haven't even proved themselves yet in the NFL...haven't even played one season. Yet, they get all the media attention, commercial deals, etc. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Certain players have been hyped/overhyped their whole lives. It seems that few of these overhyped players succeed long term in the NFL. NFL greatness seems more equivalent to the "slow burn" career trajectory: Great players develop into exceptional players in the NFL. Overhyped players don't develop. They have already peaked out. In some cases, this is potentially due to the way they were pampered in college, essentially making them "uncoachable" in the NFL.

To a certain extent, the same thing happens during the transition from HS to college football, its just on a much more grand, media focused scale by the time it gets to the big time college transitioning into the NFL. A players best bet for success is to be considered "great" and "having potential" rather than hyped/overhyped. Of course, there are exceptions to this.

I am a Browns fan..I think Manziel will go as far as the coaching staff lets him. No he is not ready to be the starter yet, bid deal. Flippin off the big mouths on the skins bench is no big deal anyway. All the crap about how somebody will be out after him is just saying they are not trying hard the rest of the time. What he can be is a real difference maker, you cant lay off him cause he will run away and you cant come after him cause he will throw the ball. If he does the ole quarterback slide and/or goes out of bounds when he is going to be hit he will be fine. His biggest problem is playing on a lousy team with probably the worst recievers in pro football. Be next year before anything significant is done about that and if they sit him all year...that's fine too.
