Since my Dad plants enough garden stuff to feed three counties, I haven't put out a garden and just help him some. I decided this year with the kids getting bigger that I would plant a few things. One thing that we decided to put out were some watermelons and cantaloupes. I know that only certain ground will grow them good, and apparently mine will. They went absolutey crazy.

My kids helped every step along the way. All that I have to say is that I am headed out to the garden to do whatever and here they come running. \:\)

Pictured is the biggest Crimson Sweet watermelon that I have ever seen. I know that some get bigger than that but the biggest that I have seen. It weighed 40 lbs on a set of bathroom scales. I was at least able to beat Dad at something this year in the garden as he always has an awesome looking one. Of course, I haven't been ribbing him about getting beat by a rookie. \:\)

Wow, congratulations on having two fine youngsters so eager to help in the garden. Looks to me like you did very well. My Wife wants to know which Cantaloupe seeds you used.

I wished that I knew too. \:\) I picked the plants up at the nursery on the way home one afternoon and never thought to check what they were. I have been kicking myself ever since as they did very well and are super sweet. I am going to try to find out from them next year when I go get some more. I think that they only sell two kinds. Mine are pretty big compared to an average cantaloupe and are more oblong than round.

Believe that might be it. Burpee sounds familiar. They won't weigh 15 lbs but look like the picture.

If your cantaloupes were not hybrids, you can save some seeds from those fruit and plant them next year to get similar results. If they are hybrids you can still save seeds and plant them, but what they yield would be a complete wildcard.

I was planning on saving some, but I am pretty sure that they were hybrids so not expecting much. I am 99% sure that Burpee is correct.
