I have been looking into purchasing a baitcast reel.
I could not find many reviews on this one.
Has anyone used it? Any recommendations in that general price range?

Never used that reel but I do have 2 of the Abu Garcia silver max and they do just fine for a $50 reel - not had a problem yet - that would be my suggestion in that price range

Take my word on this or not. In the baitcasting world you get what you pay for. If you want to go cheap be prepared to pick backslashes. If you put a little more with your sixty bucks you will have fewer backslashes.

I also have found that their pinnacle reels are reliable. been using a couple of those for ten years now. they are also in that price range

Thanks for the replies I will look into the above reels. KenBob in your opinion what is the range for diminishing returns. For example big gap between 50 vs 100 vs 150. Small gap between 150-200 as far as performance.
I also know a lot of people that use spinning reels that say invest in the reel and the rod isn't nearly as important.
I know both would be more critical the more you became skilled.
I have never used a bait-caster and am wanting a beginner to mid level setup.

I personally think there is more of a performance gap between $50-$100 than $100-$150. I spent $240 on a baitcaster 5 or 6 years ago and it still is as smooth as the day I bought it. Take care of the good ones and they'll last until you just want to buy a new one.

Yes, there is a big gap between the fifty and one hundred price tag. I would suggest you get the best one you can afford. Careful of the combos too. Sometimes a good reel will be pared with a crappy rod.

For an affordable and very good working reel I really like the Bass Pro Shop Pro Qualifiers the positive reviews are very high on there web page. They sale for $99 and are on sale a lot for $79 I have 5 of them and plan on picking up a few more. My neighbor is a hardcore tournament fisherman he was so impressed with mine he is replacing his big name reels as they wear out.
