what would you do? Do you know enough about elk hunting or would you be quickly devouring info from the internet? That's what I'd be doing... aside from watching a lot of elk videos, I don't know that much about hunting them. If I were to draw a tag, I would spend a lot of time learning as much as I can through websites, forums, videos online and then I would start researching the public land where I would be hunting and plan everything as best as I could. Because really I don't know that much about hunting them.

It's one critter I would love to hunt sometime. I'd have a better chance at going out west than drawing a tag here, but I just thought, a lot of people have put in for the elk hunt and I doubt many would know where to start actually hunting em. So what would you be doing to get ready for the hunt, if you drew a tag?

I wouldn't do that just cause I want to do it on my own. if I can't kill one myself then at least I will be glad I got to hunt them in TN.

The success rate so far, I believe, has been 100%. Can anyone verify?

I don't think it has been 100%. However, a couple of hunters that didn't kill had opportunities, but held out for a bigger bull.

Elk hunting Tips:
(1) Elk are a lot larger than you may believe. Dragging one out is NOT gonna happen.
(2) Antlers are huge. Learn what is big and what is not.
(3) Hide is thick & tough. I get whacked a lot for this but I think a 300 WinMag and 180 partitions are minimual poison.
(4) Don't let TV fool you. You best be ripped physically and mentally before you head out. No Tree stand hunting.
(5) Do you have skills and weapons to shoot 300 yards with maybe wind? If you see a monster at 400 what are you gonna do? Have you ever done a sneak on deer? Ok funny story. I was practicing my stalking skill on Doe deer on the Tejon Ranch in CA. Low-crawling through brush in snake country seems dangerous enough but crab-walking gave me such cramps I was rolling on the ground. I looked up and the does I was stalking had wandered over to see what I was.

If I had the time and funds I'd be back in NW Colorado or down west of Alamosa in a hearbeat.

man if I were lucky enough to draw a Tennessee elk tag, I would not wait for a bigger bull, I would shoot my first elk if I got the shot. But that's just me
