Here's some info: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2013/10/17/battle-rope-exercises/

"Wind Sprints" for your arms. If you do them at high intensity, its a anaerobic workout, metabolic conditioning workout: Great for the heart and lungs and will also build muscular endurance in your arms. Another good thing about them it that it incorporates multiple muscles: Core, back, shoulders and arms, which has more real world application than isolated bodybuilding such as doing bicep curls. In other words, the task you are performing with those ropes is more likely to replicate tasks that you perform pruning out treestands, moving furniture, swimming, or doing farm work than, say bicep curls, which is a motion that you almost never perform in real world scenarios.

I like them and used to pair them with other full-body or multiple muscle group exercises. I would usually do X number of seconds on the ropes, do X number of burpees, do X number of rows, and maybe pull-ups up lunges depending on what I really wanted to focus on.

I can likely save some money in this department. WE may have some large diameter nylon ropes at the shop. If you're interested, send me a PM. I'll look when I get in tomorrow morning. The $2+ per foot seems a little high.

I was wrong. The biggest options we have in stock are 1-1/8" Polypro and 1-1/4" Manila. I'm still waiting on a call back to see what I can find in the 2" flavor. I'll keep this thread updated with what I can find.

Found someone that'll cut me 2" x 50' pieces of nylon. It's softer than the polyester stuff, and probably a bit more flexible. Cost is higher than I expected at around $140 if you can pick up in Memphis.
