On my family's property, we got into wildlife food plots a year or two ago. So far we have a 65hp 4wd Mahindra, a 3 pt broadcaster, a 14 ft disk, a cultipacker, and a 10ft bush hog. So far we've planted clover, chicory, and winter greens with ok success.

I'd like to get more into small scale crop farming on another 8 acre section of the property. Are there classes or courses that I could take to get a better understanding?

the internet and good record keeping will be your best friend

I have detailed records on my sunflowers dating back over 15 years

every step, every seed, every chemical is documented

I trust nothing to memory

A simple soil test will go a long way towards telling you what to do to the dirt to get it to grow whatever you are wanting to grow. After that, follow the seed seller's recomendations for soil prep and planting dates. These two things will get you a long way.
