I have 28 acres with 10 of it wooded. Theres a large soybean/wheat field to my east and another large one to my west. Those fields are about 1/4 mile off me. Im having trouble getting deer traffic over me. Im gonna do a fall plot on my field which faces southeast with plenty of light and has a gentle slope. Im thinking about winter peas, but what would be a good mix with peas? Or do ya'll have a better idea that would give me a chance between these big fields? The field to the west has heavy traffic going north/south with the river to the north. Also the field to the west has corn. Any help is appreciated!

My best hunting mix is Oats and purple top turnips.

I'd suggest this cool season mixture: 10 pounds of crimson clover, 8 pounds of ladino clover, 25 pounds of Austrian winter peas and 25 pounds of oats--per acre. Be sure and broadcast 200-300 pounds of 13-13-13 or 15-15-15 after disking and prior to planting.

hawgbear,.. for your situation i would recommend this... 50 lbs oats 20 lb winter peas 5 lbs arrowleaf 5 lbs DER PER ACRE You don't need a perenial clover in your mix cause clover will not pull deer from soybeans. PLUS,.. ladino clover will take all winter to establish a root system. The mix above is superior attraction with added nutrition to cover you thru your deer season and still provide a spring forage til the neighbors plant their soybeans.
