I get home and I'm watching the news and all of a sudden the power in the living room goes out. What the heck? I check the circuit breaker and the GIF outlets and everything is ok. Turn the breaker off and back on...still no power. You guys have any other ideas of what I need to check before I have to get an electrician?

have you swapped the breaker with another one to make sure it is good ? Is it just one circuit or all of the LR circuits ?

x2 on swapping out the breaker with one you know is good. Also check your outdoor gfi outlets, one of them may be on the same circuit as the living room.

Now that you say that, I placed my right hand on the top right corner of the breaker when I flipped the switches and it was pretty warm. I touched around the breaker and it was cooler as I felt lower.

You don't change the whole box just the breaker. There is a chance the breaker is still good, you just tried to reset it before it had cooled off. Go back and push it real hard to the off position and then turn it back on. It may have been over loaded and tripped. You could have some lose wire that made it over load and trip.
It is usually not that hard to replace a breaker, just take the panel off and see what it takes. If you are a little scared of electricity then pleas get some one else to do it.

If the breaker is good and it resets but you still do not have power in your living room, then you may have a loose connection at 1 of the receptacles which would cause a warm breaker also. A lot of houses I have seen wired are looped from 1 plug to the next, and they strip the wire and push it into the back of the plugs, which has a spring connection, over time that spring gets weak and the wire will loose connection, or come out, and you will loose power at that plug or after that plug on down the line. But if it is wired on the side, there is a brass tab that links the 2 screw sides together, I have seen these break or burn into causing problems. If possible I try to put my wires under the screws for a more secure fit. As KPH said if you are not comfortable working with electricity, please let a qualified person do it.
