MT. JULIET- Several ducks along Old Hickory Lake turned up dead Sunday. Catlin Gentry claims he saw several ducks flock near his dock and convulse into seizures before dying. According to Gentry, the ducks died in groups throughout the day. By mid-afternoon Sunday Gentry found twenty ducks dead in and around the water bank. The TWRA is investigating. The TWRA will send some of those deceased ducks off out-of-state for necropsy and toxicology testing. “Until the ducks are analyzed, and the cause of death is determined, I wouldn’t point a finger at anybody” said Lt. Jim Hooper with the TWRA. At this point, it’s unclear if the ducks died from coming in contact with something in the water, or if they were poisoned or ate something that killed them. The TWRA calls it “concerning” and says it is very unusual for several animals to die in the same location. It could take anywhere from days to months to receive lab test results. In the meantime, if you see anything unusual in the water report it to the TWRA and avoid the area.

That is weird.

But Old HIckory is not in Mt. Juliet.

Very odd story.

Probably a pesticide of some sort. I remember when I was young a Neighbor who lived on a small creek in South Alabama put out some chemical in his garden. Semi-tame ducks that lived on the creek ate it and died right in his garden.

I guess the Cedar creek area would be part on N. Mt. Juliet. Just seems odd listing the location as that. I was 1/2 wondering if the Ducks were on jPP and Fox new screwed it up...

Lots of old hickory lake is in Mt. Juliet. From shutes branch all the way to benders ferry and spencer creek.

I really hope they figure out what's going on. Although, the ducks around my house didn't seem to be harmed and I live in Langford Cove.

i sent it to a buddy who is a biologist up in KY and his guess was mold poising from grains or folks feeding them. Makes sense but was just a guess from him.

Probably a good guess. They all flew into the same feed pile somewhere.

there is an old man who pours a five gallon bucket of corn in the parking lot at shutes branch EVERY day. Hundreds of ducks and geese eating it.

The news crew said they went out there and found a coon and a woodpecker dead too. Sounds like a common food source.
