Thinking about getting my 5 year old one for his birthday in September. I've read up on the breed some and more than anything I'll admit we just think they're beautiful dogs and my son really has a strange bond with animals that quite frankly I don't have. That being said, I was looking for some first hand information from any of you that have owned them or currently do. I'll take anything you got...any comments?

I have one. Very smart and loyal dogs. They do not like cats. I do not have kids but mine has been around nieces and nephews and good with kids. They are very stubborn. Mine at present is 13 years old and that is old for a husky.

Be ready fro a dog that loves to DIG! I mean DIG! Loyal, sweet, did I say Loyal? But let them catch a scent of something in the ground and you cants stop em from digging.

Had a husky wolf mix while in Wa. state, absolutely beautiful animals and very loyal. Hope you have some place large for it to run, they love to be outdoors.

I've had several, they are very smart loving, loyal, need exercise.
They love a challenge and a hunt so I hope there are no chickens around.

I've always thought they would be a cold climate dog with all that fur and all. And is it true they don't bark very much?

My wife's grandparents had two and they needed to have their coat kept pretty short or they would be miserable in the warmer weather. Other than that, those two dogs were awesome!

I have a soon to be 4 year old female. She is a full time indoor dog and she is absolutely the best indoor dog I have ever had. She does not make mistakes bathroom wise and as long as she has her basket of toys she is happy as can be. She is great around kids and my toddler cousins yank, lay, and try to ride her and she has never once even grimaced.

Now for the not so great. If indoors they need at least monthly grooming or the shedding will be almost unbearable. They are amazingly cunning and notorious escape artist, I know from experience. They learn and remember well. To top it off they pick and choose when they like to be stubborn.

Training is critical with the breed. They are naturally pack animals and social structure must be established at a very young age. They have to know that you are in charge. I wouldn't trade my Maya for anything and she is a part of the family.
