Help please. Is there a good (functional & safe) non-stick cooking pan?

Teflon safety conspiracy theories worry me. I know I could wear a tin foil hat while cooking, but I seriously don't look good in a hat.

The "as seen on TV" Or"green"ic pan intrigues me but again, is it safe?


Anyone have suggestions? Opinions?

It's hard to get a well-seasoned cast iron that will sufficiently release an egg or a delicate piece of fish sometimes. A large non-stick skillet is handy to have, especially when cooking tomato-based meals.

That being said, you get what you pay for with non-stick stuff. I wouldn't squash a fly with the "As Seen On TV" skillet. It's too small, it's too lightweight, and I'm overly skeptical about something that relies solely on its claim to being green.

FYI, get a hold of a Williams Sonoma Outlet store near you. They always have good quality non-stick stuff for less than $100.

The money in a non-stick is in the pan's weight, as well as the quality of its non-stick coating. The cheapo ones are too thin, and can develop bad domes because of their uneven heating.

No non stick here but I recently bought a set of Cusinart iron clad pans,they are a little expensive but best pans I have ever used.

I have 1 of the ceramic cheap pans,its safe but the coating is very thin & I don't see it lasting a long time. I hand wash it & 1 with the non stick coating that I use for eggs in order to make it last. I paid over $20 for the small egg skillet & its very heavy so hoping for 5-8 years of use. wife may shorten that time if she uses it lol

Thank you guys, I knew I could get great info from the TnDeer campfire.

And TAFKAP, yes I saw the "Made in China" after posting the picture. Reviews online are 50-50. 1/2 crap... 1/2 great (I guess I'd have to buy two). LOL

Mike, what kind of ceramic pans? Any certain name brand?

I like to keep a teflon no-stick pan around for eggs and omelets. I usually have to replace them every year because even with plastic utensils, they scratch. I started using TFAL with the Prometal Pro interior. It is said to be metal utensil safe. I have not scratched them yet so I am happy so far. I have seen eggs stick to the ceramic green pans.
