Thanks for the update. It's cool he knew which one you were talking about. Going to vaccum seal the meat and put it in the freezer now. Will be done except for a trip to the taxidermist!

mr big, YES!!! The rangefinder was the biggest negative of the trip.

BucknBass, who again did you use, cause I`m thinking I might want to do something with mine too. It needs a ride there today if so.

Tim, glad to read of your great hunt. I can really picture it from your story. I hope to get to go again one day.

On a side note I was talking to an older gentlemanat church this weekend. He asked if I ever hunted elk, "No, but I did get to go to New Mexico 2 years ago to hunt antlope."

His reply. "Oh I've owned land in New Mexico for 40 years"

PMC, you need an Elk partner...........I volunteer. ;\)

I have the Leica 1200 Scan unit.

It is a good rangefinder and works like it is supposed to.

I think the grass was the culprit for sure as I had readings on standing animals without problem.

I have to use the rifle as a steady rest due the size of the small window in the Leica.

It still is difficult to press the button and hold it on the image at the same time on something that far away.

Try and find a neibor with goats and see if you can back up to 600/800 yds and see what I`m talking about.

Hard to do.

If I remember right it is tapped on the bottom for tripod use, I will investigate using it that way and may find it is just operator error.

Great story Tim, and congrats again!

I've been keeping an eye out for the Leica 1200 scan as well for my replacement rangefinder. From what I've read, they can't be beat unless you go up to the 2 grand models.
