I drive down this road fairly often in Franklin. There is a field on one side, and a tree line in that field. No hedges in the tree line, it's all fairly open. Right there on the ground I have seen a turkey hen sitting down in the same spot, in the past 2 days in a row. Yeah I have gotten more than one look and it's definitely a live turkey sitting down. She isn't in any type of cover. About 10 yards from the tree line and maybe 40 or 50 ish yards from the road. If I get the chance, I might try and pull over to take a pic. But I don't want to disturb her. A few weeks ago, I got those pics of a hen nested in open hardwoods at a friend's place. He went back twice and said she had abandoned the nest. So I don't want to bump her but I would like to try and get a pic. Odd place for a nest. Wide open field next to a wide open tree line next to the road. Anyone ever seen that before?

Hens can be pretty territorial come nesting time. If this is her first nest or perhaps she's not high up the pecking order, the very best nest areas may have been staked out by other hens.

I've never see that either. Maybe that's the best she could do if others ran her out of the better spots?

Odd spot for sure. There's one nesting in some woods behind my neighbors house that feeds around in my yard every morning and every afternoon. I watch her go back in to the same spot. When I left this morning there were 4 hens in my backyard. Odd thing is I never see the poults.

It seems odd to me too. Even the one that you had a picture of in the open hardwoods was odd to me. I have always noticed them to nest in pretty thick areas.

I wouldn't disturb her either.

It could be that it's just a spot that turkey likes to sit daily at about the time you drive by. She's not necessarily sitting on a nest. May just be a good observational spot.

would be an odd coincidence. The first time I saw her was at dusk, when turkeys should be on the roost.
