I have been doing some research on different base layer options. There are alot of good reviews on merino wool. I am trying to figure out what weight I should use in tn. What do you use for base layers during hunting season?

Here is a good article on layering, it covers all the aspects and materials

I switched to merino base layers last year and LOVED them. I was much more comfortable in the harsh cold and days with wide weather swings. I also wore a lightweight merino shirt during turkey season this Spring. Yep, merino wool on 90 degree days and it was very comfortable. Its also amazing how many times you can wear merino before it starts to stink. I have a merino t shirt in 135 weight that I workout in several times a week. The thing gets soaked with sweat and I can wear it 6-10 times before it stinks bad enough to get washed.

I have a mix of First Lite, Smartwool, Icebreaker and Kuiu merino. Kuiu has most of their backstock on sale right now as they just launched a new line. I have a mix of thickness: 145, 185 and 225. On really cold days, I'll layer 2 of them.
If you are going to go with just one, I'd probably do ~185 weight.

Be wary of Merino blends and off brands as much of what is sold as "merino" is actually not merino wool. These brands are all quality and made with real merino: First Lite, Kuiu, Icebreaker, Smartwool. Unfortunately, they are all $$, though you can find sales this time of year.
It doesn't have to be fun to be fun.
