Scientific American bags on the Paleo diet because Paleolithic diets varied so much from region to region. For example, the diet of the Arctic Paleolithic man was very different from that of the Central American man. Reasonable argument.

I have no doubt that the modern concept of eating Paleo has holes on it. I do like the fact that it moves people away from eating processed foods and battles the myths of saturated fats as being unhealthy. For most people, eating a more Paleo based diet is only going to benefit them. However, I disagree entirely with the premise of the no dairy in the Paleo diet. I just don't buy it. As a hunter, I have killed numerous deer that were carrying milk. In a Paleo setting where humans hunted constantly, especially Megafauna such as Mammoths, you telling me that when they split open the guts of an animals and discovered milk that they didn't consume it? That would be the most bang for your buck as far as fat, nutrients and calories. In fact, If I were hunting for pure survival, I'd likely target animals with young offspring in the hopes of acquiring milk. While its not something that you would get daily, I'd sure think that any reasonable hunter/gatherer consumed dairy products any chance they got.

Maybe I'm entirely wrong & just guessing, I think the real deal paleo man would eat anything that wouldnt eat him, from grubs to grass, fish to fowl & anything to fill the belly & help make it thru the day.

Just a guess.

Maybe not cow milk per say, but Paleo hunter/gathers certainly consumed milk of the megafauna and other game animals they killed. Though, further research into ancient dairy consumption reveals that though it is not part of the Paleo diet, it is considered a "Primal" and fit for consumption under the guidelines of the Primal Blueprint.

Tried the Paleo diet on doctor's recommendation. I've no doubt it's very healthful, but found following it 100% to be VERY difficult, at least for me. About went crazy trying to concoct something that resembled edible bread!
