In order to NOT hi-jack another thread, I was just wondering what you consider a "poser" when it comes to hunting anything??

Someone who wants everyone to think their all into something. They have all the gear, stickers, shirts, hats, visors etc etc. . Said person barely hunts or is so ineffective that they're just in the way of others who take it seriously.

That's a poser, and they're the worst. Always in the freaking way \:D

I hate the posers who talk the talk and have stickers or camo hats or jackets or whatever and they say they're gonna go hunt and kill something and then in the course of the season they MIGHT go hunting one time. Seen it more than once and it kind of annoys me. Oh and they are usually obsessed with just the killing part, and usually the antlers or big beards too.

In addition to what I see mentioned, I also consider someone somewhat of a poser that acts like they are a big accomplished hunter but yet they cant get it done with any consistency at all on their home turf in areas like I live where we have low deer and turkey numbers. So they are always leaving to hunt in Mid TN, West TN, KY, etc. and thats where they get their game. Im not saying that because they go hunt other places, Im saying that because they have to go hunt better numbers in order to get anything consistently.

Good point. I know a guy that lives in Missouri and runs a cattle ranch and guides a few guys every spring. Had a guy call and book a hunt once and said he was really excited because he just needed an eastern to finish his slam. When he got there he asked him where he was from. Tennessee was his answer. --Super Poser

You guys are killing me... So basically all the guys that aren't as hardcore hunters as they would like to think they are... My guess is if that's the definition of a poser most on this site are a poser.. In more than one aspect of life.. Some probly have three or four hobbies, that they are not actually participants of, just posers..
Many ppl would love to think they're great hunters. But most simply lack the drive to be that. To be a "great" hunter requires a huge commitment, and is physically and mentally exhausting! I don't think that makes them a poser, just means they lack the ability to do what they wish they could. It's just annoying to more serious hunters, because they think they shouldn't be there if they aren't like them... And as some have said they get in the way, and occupy land that some think they do not deserve....
But really what is a hardcore hunter? Or great hunter, or whatever it is that you should be?

Different topic is what is a hardcore hunter this is about posers and yes they're in the way. Not often because they infrequently leave the house

Sorry you're offended but posers do exist and the descriptions above accurately represent them

Easy now! I like to check out walmarts selection when I am in there with the old lady. I can spend an hour just looking. Sure beats shopping for clothes \:D

Not offended.. I guess I just don't see as many nonhunters posing as if they are... I do see a lot of folks that only hunt once or twice a season, but would like to think they are as serious about it as anyone..
I guess this is more frustrating for guys that regularly hunt public land...

The posers I know are very accomplished killers...They want everyone to think they are the best hunters around but actually they will kill by whatever means needed, bait, road hunt, whatever...Lots of them like to make videos too and try to get on TV and most definitely on You Tube.. I often see some of them sitting in hunting booths at shows like the NWTF and they also have pics plastered all over FB. I just laugh and go on when I see them....I have absolutely no respect for people like this..

I also view posers to be the "you're not doing it right because you're not doing it the way I approve" guy, the "you're not a hunter because you're not primitive enough" guy, and the "you're not a hunter because you didn't start when you are 4" guy. I'd also like to add the "you're not a hunter because you get paid, have sponsors, and I'm really jealous but won't admit it" guy and the "you're not a hunter because you dare to disagree with anything the TWRA says" guy.

I agree with some of that Roost. I'm related to a guy that is an accomplished killer. I honestly don't know what means more to him - hunting turkeys or making sure everyone knows he kills them. And he typically breaks the law at some point to get one. i.e. trespassing, killing more than his limit, etc...and yeah he wants to be on tv lol.

I'll also say that its ok to feel accomplished of your hunt and share with friends via video or Facebook. ....i think a hunters reasoning behind posting on social media is where it gets tricky. Are you proud of your hunt and want to share? Or are you trying to project and maintain an image?

If you are legit it's cool to post and share but if you just rolled the window down on one or blowed him off the corn pile, who cares... Guys I am talking about will kill at all costs...
I know there are many legit hunters who can end an ol gobblers day quick and I
Have the utmost respect for these guys.. They also may or may not get there limit but if they don't its prolly due to good reason.. Harold Knight is prolly one of the best..... Nothing fancy about him either, actually he would rather fish.

Wouldn't have guessed Harold to prefer fishing over turkeys. I can remember watching their videos with dad when I was a little boy and thinking how good they were at hunting turkeys
