Putting my game plan together on a diet. What would y'all suggest for breakfast? I'm shooting for loosing 50 pounds. I'm also leaning hard towards to caveman diet. (I know protein shakes are not part of that)

Do it the opposite.

Breakfast like a King.
Lunch like a Prince.
Dinner like a Pauper.

If you eat your large meal at dinner then go to bed, your metabolism slows and does not digest appropriately.

I personally am using Shakeology.

My advice on the 50lbs - do something sustainable. Do something you can live with from now on.

For me - it's eating healthier and eating less (volume).

I'm down almost 30 - 202lbs this morning. Isopure for protein - shakeology when I'm in a hurry at lunch intermittently. I'm not actually doing what JandS proposed above - which is the best method in which you tap into you metabolism for help but I'm really scaling back on all meals instead.

I suppose the question is, what do you expect to achieve by drinking a protein shake for breakfast? I suck down protein shakes as a means of delivering immediate protein after a workout. I sometimes supplement with another one mid afternoon if I am really blasted and feel like I need additional protein to recover. But, a protien shake, unto itself, is going to be no more benefit to you than a couple of eggs or some bacon. In fact, if you are trying to limit calories, it is very easy to go overboard with calories and sugars in a shake. Plus, since the contents of a protein shake tend to be digested quicker, you may be hungry sooner than if you ate solid food. -just depends on what you are trying to do. In general, I think of protien shake as a means of protein supplementation for someone who is working on building muscle. If your first goal is weight loss, it might be best consider other options.

Poser, that made me think of this. Which is better to build muscle or drop fat first?

I'd say do them both at the same time, HOWEVER, the scale cannot be your be all end all judge of progress if you do this. You may want to measure body fat, waist line and use other means of progress measurement. Once you start working out, you'll probably lose a good bit of weight right off the bat, but that will stabilize out and you may not feel like you are making progress on the scale because you are increasing muscle. I've seen people come through Crossfit who dropped 10 pounds in the first 6 weeks and then put 10 pounds right back on in muscle despite dropping 4 inches in the waist. They weigh as much as they did when they started, but they look very different.

It doesn't matter what you eat or when you eat it! Galleries IN vs calories OUT burn more calories then you consume and you loose weight.. muscle burns I think 5-10 calories per hour so the more muscle you have the more calories you burn

Not the greatest advice, unless you want to have heart disease, blocked arteries, or a nice stroke before you turn 40. ;\)

I think it would be to my advantage to eat fruits and vegetables, lean meat, and good carbs as opposed to bacon, cheeseburgers with extra mayonnaise, chocolate cake, soft drinks, and fried chicken. I'm just saying...

Most people realize how little bad food you get with your set number of calories and start making healthier lower calorie choices .

good point quailman. You can't outrun a bad diet. Lean and fit does not guarantee you are healthy.

I am actually using Visalus. Two shakes a day and a sensible meal at night. Not hungry at all. Lost 15 lbs so far.

I lost 45 lbs using Shakeology for breakfast and limiting my sugar and pointless carbs, NOT Carb free, and doing P90X 5 days a week. My blood pressure surprised my docs each time they saw the numbers and kept asking what I was doing. Working out by itself without some type of dietary focus will not achieve lasting results.

I just skip meals and do ridiculous levels of cardio. I know its not the best advice, but I am still beating 18 yr olds in basketball at the gym, lol.
