I use a 12' surf rod and a Penn 9500 reel iirc.. 120 pound braid.. I have caught several kings and 4-6 foot long sharks with it.. at the gulf shores pier.. havent cut anyones line yet..

ask the locals what they think of braided line on the pier and those using it.

honestly I dont care what the "locals" think..they think they own the whole pier... well I have a house in allybamma also and pay my fair share of the taxes.. I pay my fee to fish there just like they do.. when I see some one hooked up and running down the pier I crank my stuff in and get out of the way.. just because they have the privilage of fishing there way more than my 2-3 trips a year doesnt mean I need to walk around and ask them what type of gear I can use..

the locals on the GSPP are the nicest, most helpful group of people I have ever fished with. they are only rude to those who "think" they know it all and won't listen to tips and advice. they have a name for people like that.

yep..they call them STIKS...LOL...Happy Easter Brother!!
