Is there ANYTHING worse than a cold front in terms of catching fish?????

Why does it shut them down so bad?

Pressure change. About the only thing worse for me is cold, muddy water.

With cold fronts just fish the same places but fish so slow it hurts. Then slow down.

Man is on spring break this week and we were hoping to get some fishing done in the afternoons this week.

Sure don't look very promising. \:\(

I would still give it a try especially if you are gonna use live bait. It does seem like a cold front affects them worse on a shallow body of water. On Center Hill, the worst thing for them is a warm front in the winter time. A cold front this time of year just makes them mad. It is supposed to be 60 on Wed and warming up a little every day so by Thurs or Fri you should be okay. Also as said above, cold and muddy water is not good.

I was just wondering about that tnlarry.

Wondered how a crappie would react to it if you dropped a minnow in his face.

I have caught crappie post cold front. They will usually bite a little better of the evening when the water warms some. It won't be as good without the cold front, but they still have to eat as they are thinking about making babies right now. It is hard for a crappie to resist a minnow in front of it. I would throw it with 6 lb test line and no sinker around brush.

My brother and I were bank fishing at small lake at the Lower Hatchie River Refuge a couple of years ago. We were wearing out the bream/crappie until around 11:00...it was like something flipped a switch and turned the bite off. Come to think of it, a cold front came through not long after that. I think it has something to with the barometric pressure, like chunkandwind mentioned. We never did catch anything else after that.

As for how to catch fish during a cold front, I don't know. Since you have a boat, it might be easier for you to accomplish that, especially if you have a fish finder.

A front can definitely slow them down. Usually after a cold front you can fish after a few hours of sunlight exposure and slow down and maybe even fish a little deeper to still get bit.
