IT only took 20 min for me to sight in and become proficient with my new Tenpoint. I can't wait to share the woods this year with the traditional archers. They play so well with others.

TT & TNhunter..... You both are perfect examples of why I love to take my crossbow and one reason I switched from a Compound to a crossbow after 22 years of hunting with bow..... Both of you do not want more hunters in the woods because you are scared of Competition. Or simply greedy...... Either that or crossbows threaten your thoughts of how superior you are because you are a "Bow hunter"...... Give it up.... That whole "I am superior because I hunt with a bow thing" is one of the main things I disliked about a lot (not all are this way) hardcore bow hunters....
No go back to the other Archery formus.... It has been nice & frendly over here since since you were gone....
I should of figured TT would come back over here since they clsed the Elk forum......

Having been someone who, by necessity, has had to hunt with one for years, I love to see people argue over them with asinine arguments that they are "guns" or that they will "hurt bowhunting". The lunacy on the other side is that they are some magical elven instruments.. 
yall wanna get going on a discussion.... here is a spoonful of reality. Crossbows are expensive, heavy, awkward, slow-cycling horizontal bows that have no more or less range than a vertical bow. You often have to "stock up" on parts and use special presses and tools. Most (worse with recurves) will jar the teeth out of your head and sound like you just hammered on an anvil. Some crossbows are absolute crap too. Back in the 80s when I was shooting a 70#, 42+" (ata), 60% LO, round wheel bow (for hunting, compounds were a serious improvement over recurves and long-bows) that clunked out an arrow, maybe 190 to 220 fps - there could have been a technical advantage to a crossbow. But not anymore.
...throw in for hunting, dragging that boat anchor when you go to, fro, stalk or track.. Oh, did I mention the noise? the clunking, string jumping, bad shot landing, gut cutting, arrow loosing noise?  Did I? How many little 18" arrows have you lost - buddy they like to hide. And why not? They have the power. I have shot pass-throughs on does and still had mine (early production run of Tenpoint Stealth X-2 shooting 18-1/8" 2219 SuperSlams, w/3 5" Duravanes, 125gr 3 & 4-blade Muzzys - bury 9" (that's 9 inches - after the pass-thru)) in the ground. How freekin' much do you think it takes to kill a deer? shhhh... shot placement.. It's hard to do when they jump on you.
Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less what anyone chooses to shoot - I really don't. I am very often interested in why you shoot what you shoot. I just can't figure out why any vertical bowhunter cares what a horizontal bowhunter shoots. Just put a T,C60, C75, X or U by each deer in the record book for traditional, compound 60% or less let-off, 75% or more let-off, Xbow or unrecorded/unknown and shut the %$## up about who shot what with what and get on with archery hunting in God's greatest state.
Oh as a p.s. - did anyone know that when God created the earth and all things therein contained he was asked "where is the best place on earth to live. He hesitated not and put his finger down right on Middle Tennessee. That is what made the Central Basin and wrinkled up the Smokey Mountains. It did pull West Tennessee a tad flat. He was so emphatic about it, he spun the world. And that my friends is what the world rotates counter-clockwise.
p.p.s This year is the first year since 1981 I have been able to hunt vertical and I love it; but, I'll eventually pick the Xbow back up. Crossbows are archery equipment and have every right and privilege to be in TN's deer woods - irregardless of why someone may want or have to use them.
summary - shoot whatever you like, but get out there and take some deer (preferably does and bunch of 'em)
Oh one last thing for Mr. TT up there ...if you are gonna shoot a crossbow - shoot a real crossbow.

Sako - reread my post and see the "us" in it. Us as in xbow users. I'm just poking back at old TT. A stupid response to an ever more stupid original post (which I know was only posted in fun). Been using my Excalibur since the first year they were legal during the "regular old archery season". I "might" someday use my MQ1 again - but for now I'll be taking the Exocet 200 EVERYTIME I hit the woods during archery season. The first year I hunted with it - I hunted probably 3x more with it than all other weapons combine.

What he said. Alot of people are crap shooters with normal bows.

Seriously though. I dont see what all the bitching and whining is about. NOTHING is changed about how it kills the animal.
Instructions for shooting a normal bow...
1: Put arrow on string
2: Pull String back
3: Let go of string by pulling trigger on release
4: Dead animal
Instructions for shooting a crossbow...
1: Put bolt on string
2: Pull String Back
3: Let go of string by pulling trigger on xbow
4: Dead animal
The only thing that does change is how the weapon is held. So whats the big deal? Older people with back problems aint gonna be able to load a xbow that easy so why are they supposedly for disabled hunters only? So once again I'll say nothing changes about how it works, just how the weapon looks. Its stupid at how people say xbows are garbage and wont kill a animal and are un-ethical or whatever other bull**** that gets spewed. I dont use a xbow but Im all for everyone else using them.

Let me start off by saying that I hunt with rifle, MZ, compound, recurve , and crossbow. What I am finding more and more these days is the people who consider themselves "true bowhunters" are kinda like the snooty fly fisherman down at the local trout stream that beat the hell out of the water all day with their size 22 BWO just to catch a couple of stockers. Don't get me wrong I like to fly fish sometimes to. They think the bait fisherman are a bunch of slobs for using bait to catch fish. Last time I checked the flies they were using were imitations of that bait. Its just this holier than now attitude that erks me. I really don't get the whole thing. My effective killing range is almost identical for my compound and my crossbow so what's the difference. I hear alot of people say they are against it because it is easier to pick up a crossbow and be more accurate quicker. Who cares, if you are a lousy shot with your bow, you need more practice anyway.

It's hard for me to look down on bait chunkers since I sometimes am one. You, however, seem to think very highly of yourself as compared to all others. You might want to read some of the thread and strap yourself in before climbing up on top of that high horse.
