It's been tough but I am on the board.... Yesterday was the best gobbling day so far for me... Heard several and this one was actually on the farm I can hunt... Got on him at daylight and killed him at 10:00am....today was back to same ol same ol!!!! Listen to them gobble on the neighbors and shut up when they hit the ground.... I can't remember it ever being this tough at this point in the season..

Doubled up with my buddy this morning. We worked this flock of birds for a long time this morning. There were 4 strutters, 8 jakes and a wad of hens. The hens were very vocal till about 8am. The strutters spent over an hour hung up at 70 yards. My buddy was up front on the gun and I was sitting a couple trees back calling. I finally got one of the longbeards to to ease off the hill our way. My buddy got a long shot and hammered a nice 2 year old. As soon as he shot the boss bird came running in and jumped on his bird. I hammered the boss. We laser ranged the shots afterwards and they were a bit further than I would recommend. Fortunately we had both spent lots of time patterning and tweaking to make the shots lethal at that range. Both shooting 3.5" magblends. I'd like to be good enough to call them to 20 yards every time. Till then, it's good to know the effective range of my gun. Don't ask how far...
