Watching tecomate on tv and the Morris dude said, after they killed a deer.....

What I like best is there are no ticks on this deer. That shows great nutrition right there.

Really ?

Sounds like BS. Though I imagine as a result of having no ticks a deer would be healthier than he if it had ticks all over it.

If I were a tick, the more nutritient rich deer would seem like a tastier host.

He obviously didn't look very close. While deer in poor condition may have excess parasite loads (as a result of or as a cause of the poor condition), even the healthiest of deer will have parasites, including ticks. Unless of course, there is a place where ticks don't exist.

Killed a doe one Jan. day in Livingston, Al that her leg pits were covered in ticks. Never seen that many ticks on a deer before even killing some on opening day

I've seen some data suggesting healthier deer carry less ticks, but in a tick infested area, every deer is going to be loaded with ticks. Honestly, I can't imagine how a deer's health could prevent ticks from attaching.

A few years ago I caught a mated pair of fox. When I skinned them, the male was covered with hundreds of ticks. Some still alive, some under the skin and long dead. His fur was also matted. The female had barely a tick. Yet they were running together. I think personal hygene was the difference. Probably pertains to deer at some level as well.
