Me and a bass fishing buddy are thinking of going to the Chickamauga the first weekend of April. Wondering how you think it would be then, other than crowded, I know. Coming from West Tn to fish new water.
Also where are some recommended places to stay and good places to feed at.Probably arrive on a Thursday and fish through Sunday morn. Best launching places etc.

I am not much of a bass fisher, He is pretty experienced.
Any info will be appreciated.

Stay in Hixson or Dayton. chester Frost park or chickamauga dam near hixson. Dayton boat dock in dayton. For me its hard to beat an 8 inch lizard in April for spawning bass.

You can go here and search places to stay. http://www.chattanoogafun.com/accommodations

I often point folks to Exit #5 on I-75. Huge selection of hotels, zillions of restaurants and only about seven minutes from Chickamauga Dam Launch. However if you want to fish North end of lake, Dayton is a better choice.

You might also check out Island Cove Marina: http://www.islandcovemarina.us/

They don't have lots of rooms and fill up fast, but if you want to be on the water, it's one of the few options.

That should be a great time as most bass should be shallow

Got a room at Island Cove Marina. Now we are just hoping the weather and the fish will cooperate when we get there.

Good choice and location and as far as being crowded I wouldn't think it would be bad yea the usual honey holes will probably have people in them but you can catch good fish all over the chick and that time of the year all the jackwagons haven't had time to get their wake boats and jet skis out thats the biggest problem on the chick when it warms up

If the water hasn't warmed up too much by then the A-rig bite should still be good?

The rig will still produce solid fish but I usually start throwing a lizard or cranks im by far a pro but that time of the year I switch from feeding strikes to natural reaction aggressive strikes dragging the lizard or beating the bottom or brush with a crank I live in soddy so most of my time is spent up towards the nuclear plant and soddy and opossum creek but look at maps by Chester frost or Harrison area if all else fails get back in a creek mouth and start beating the brush and bank you'll be surprised the numbers and quality of fish that people just blast right by

Another thing is look around and read on cff , Chattanooga fishing forum cause people post daily reports of the fishing and conditions and that should give you a good idea and maybe pm Kirk on here if he isn't busy maybe he can give you some good starting points

Thanks. Really not much different than fishing KY Lake or Barkley. I got skunked at Dale Hollow a couple years back and didn't want to repeat that trip.
