How much you looking to spend? There have been millions of ducks called in with a Haydel DR85 over the years. That's where I started.

my

Just go buy a cheap one and learn to blow it, they are on clearance now just about everywhere. Once you can blow it right any call is easy, or at least easier to master.

good luck

If your going to be serious and try and learn how to use one properly go ahead and get a good one. Tons of calls made by Echo and RNT that are easy to use. There are very few people that can take a wide range of calls and make them sound just as good as another. One piece of advice....do NOT but a duck call that you haven't blown or atleast tried out. No two duck calls blow the same. And no two people blow a duck call the same. So some duck calls will suit your blowing style better than others.

With that being said.....many people use cheaper calls and make them sound fine. And you don't have to be a master duck caller to kill ducks. So you can take all of this for what its worth. But as a person who has been calling ducks for a long time and has blown just about every call on the market, there are duck calls that are better than others. A cheap call is great if you can run it. But most cheap calls lack the ability to be extremely versatile. And trust me when it gets later in the season and the ducks get call shy your gonna need to pull out all the tricks to get em in close.

The duck call I blow is the new Echo DRT. Best call ive ever put to my mouth so far. I can get down right nasty on that thing.

Haydel DR85 is the best and easiest duck call to start on, in my humble opinion anyway.

The DR85 is the 870 of the duck call world. There are more expensive calls out there, but nearly everyone has one on their lanyard or carries one with them. There's a reason for that

Not going to lie I have been duck hunting a while and have tried multiple DR85's and never liked them. I think you can get a decent low end call, but like Spoon said, you aren't going to get the versatility like a higher end call.

Will have to respectfully disagree. You are very well capable of hunting timber, open water, dry fields, and rice/corn fields with that call. Of course, your own abilities play a big part in that. With so many calls out there these days, Devo's best bet, like someone mentioned, is to try as many calls as possible, and go from there.

Whatever you get practice, practice, practice. Get a cd and listen to it in the truck. Carry that call in your truck and practice all the time. The looks you will get at stop lights will be priceless.
