The deer are hitting it really hard around here Interesting! I've never known deer to eat it up here in PA Polk is one the primary late-summer food sources of deer in the Southeast. Not only is it highly nutritious and easy to digest, it contains a lot of water.
We are also in a serious drought here grundsow, so without food plots and water this plant is really getting munched down to the ground around here.

Polk stands I located earlier have already been taken down by the deer..... I am like 156p&y Wish the big companies would develope a type of seed that would germinate and grow!! Noticed the honeysuckle is destroyed too!

If you control your deer density and have lots of small openings or field edges, polk and honeysuckle will be everywhere.

Anyone got a picture of this stuff, does it have purple seeds? Yes it has the purple seeds that will stain the crap out of your clothing.
And the stalk is mostly purple.

My place was cut three years ago and the pokeweed is everywhere but it wont last much longer. They eat what they could reach now there breaking the stalk so they can eat the top out.

Controling the density is my problem. The neighbors to one track land I have, will not shoot a doe!! Myself, my daughter and a couple buddies cannot legally harvest enough does to put a dent in the problem. Since there isnt any crops being damaged, I would suppose I couldnt get any additional permits from TWRA.
Unit L guys have it made when it comes to attempting to control deer density, and create a ideal buck to doe ratio. Unit L guys can harvest in one day, what I am allowed throughout archery season...

That is a problem backstrap. But don't think we Unit L hunters have it easy. We suffer from the same "neighbor syndrome." We can kill does until the cows come home, yet by the following season, our places are completely restocked with does immigrating in from our neighbors that won't shoot does properties. It's a never ending battle. It can literally be true that the more does you shoot, the more you have the following year.
