Since its the end of the season there are starting to be sales on decoys and I'm looking for some new mallards. I have g&h now that have lasted about 10 years and have been great. But I'm reading some bad reviews about them not being built like they used to be. I know Avain X makes some now that look pretty good.

Least hear it

Guess it depends on where you are hunting and what you can afford....

If it's private club lease.... spend the extra coin for some nice and life-like decoys...

If you are hunting public lands/waters and there is a chance they may come up missing due to rough/rising water or someone decides they need them decoys worse than you and takes them.... then buy some cheaper ones and you can get more of them.... making a larger spread. It takes more work for a large spread, but it can also create a better draw....

Several brands out there now and many different body poses.... having a realistic looking setting can only help your chances in decoying ducks.

I don't remember the brand but they are putting out some mixed packs and have one called a "puddle pack". The also have a diver pack too I believe....

Its private land I hunt. Our farm and one next door. Ponds, flooded corn and river bottoms and on the river.

1 liter plastic coke bottles with a little black paint on the inside will do wonders on the outer edges of an open water spread.

unscrew cap, pour in flat black paint, screw on cap, tie decoy string to neck just below cap

Through everything I have tried and seen, a decoy is a decoy. You can spend the money on Dakota's, and you'll get the exact same result as you will with Flambeau's.
