The build is complete. I haven't taken it to the range yet but I have shot it to confirm the primers come out as easily as they go in. I tried an idea I had that appears to work. I caught a pretty nasty virus and hope to get to the range soon. Will post targets after range trip.

Action: model 16 short action stagger feed weather warrior w/accutrigger
savage short action centerfire 209 bolt head from Luke.
Barrel: Pac nor 45 match grade barrel (50 cal on order)
Stock: Hogue full length bedding block overmolded
Scope: Redfield revolution 3-9x40 BDC

Hate to disappoint you guys but I don't have a target for you. I fired 10 shots. 2 sight-ins, 3 unknurled SST, 3 knurled SST, 2 unknurled barnes. All were using 10gr sr4759 and 50gr h4198 and harvester lite blue sabots. The unknurled SST shot the best. WGK shot 3 knurled sst's through it with 7gr sr4759 and 53 gr h4198 that was worse. The gun feels really good shouldered. When I get over this virus and can think more clearly I will resume testing.

Of the 14 total shots thru this gun, all primers came out as easily as they went in. I tried something that, in all of my research, no one else has done. Let's' digress. When Slufoot modded my h&r, he pressed a bushing down inside the primer cavity of the breech plug, to "headspace" the primer against the face of the action when locked up in battery. I had him mod a spare plug at the same time. I installed this plug in the new barrel and a primer in the bolt nose. Then I screwed the barrel on until the primer bottomed out in the breech plug. At that point I backed the barrel off about a C H and tightened the barrel nut.
The key is to not allow the primer to be driven forward upon the firing pin strike nor allow the return pressure spike to begin to push the primer out of the 209 primer case against the bolt face. That is the root cause of 209 primers that are difficult to remove from the bolt nose.

Disclaimer I am no smokeless god. Take this info for what you feel it is worth. I don,'t mind sharing

After changing scope mounts, a short range session this morning showed potential. With some straight charges (pressures under 30KPSI), The groups began to tighten up. Targets are at 120 YDS. Still, no sticking primers.

Nice. Luke should be shipping me my PacNor next week for my 700 ML. Looks like I need to find some RL7 to try.

On target #2 I'm surprised the tan sabot held together. I blew a couple of them with upper 50's charges of H4198 in my H&R.

I have found the loads that shoot good in my H&R don't necessarily shoot good in this gun. The only load difference being a Fed 209A primer where I previously used Winchester. I'll try Winchesters next time out.
This is my first Pac-nor so I don't have anything to compare with. It seems extremely slick inside and loads with about 40lbs of pressure. Knurling makes it tighter but loading pressure doesn't change much. The tan sabot loads tighter with the barnes so I tried it and was surprised.

ok..makes sense. Are you going to stick with the sabotless load or go back to sabots? Are you re-sizing the barnes for the pac-nor barrel?

Honestly, the sabot groups are not consistent unless I slow them down. To rule out the stock, I bedded it in a boyds thumbhole varmint stock. I will have to post a pic.
It shoots so well sabotless that I doubt it will ever see another sabot. I don't mind the extra drop considering the the additional down range knock down power.
The 250tez comes out of the pack measuring .2505" which is a perfect fit for the pacnor. They are tight. I plan to have Swinglock put my drop in a sizing die so I can resize barnes originals and other jacketed projectiles. I didn't try any other powder charges. When I get down to the river bottoms to shoot at 300 and 400 yards, I will post those groups too.

Mine run .449 as well. I can shoot them unknurled, but a slight knurl seats them tighter on the charge.

I've seen similar groups out of several Pacs and Macs with the 250TEZ and that load.

Great trigger work!

My bad, the 250 TEZ measures .4505 with both my L.S. Starrett 0-1 micrometer and my digital calipers. They are advertised at .451 but I have found they run about .0005 smaller. I have some 300 Expanders that measure the same. I have to drive them down sometimes. If I knurled them, they wouldn't go. For now, they are fitting tight straight from the pack.
Some people are running them thru a .449 die and knurling them back up to size.
After some more research, I too have seen similar groups, but I am still proud of it. In the next range session, I am raising the charge to 10/60 to net 2800fps. When my sizing die is complete, I want to size some .458 projectiles with better BC's like the BO.

Are yours new stock? I've had mine 3 or for years and mic-ed them all and don't have any that measure that big.

If they are running bigger now I may be able to run them straight down my Mac without knurling, that would be nice.

I will borrow another micrometer from work tonight and report back the measurements. I am not sure if the package has a date code. I haven't slugged my barrel but it is supposed to be .451 on the lands and .458 in the grooves. I have resized hornaday 250 ftx thru my .450 die and they came out.451. They would have to be hammered in.

I measured the 250TEZ's with another micrometer. They measured .4505 like the Expanders I have. The Expanders were purchased in 2012 and the 250tez's were purchased last week from Midsouth.

Today's trip tp the range yielded good results. Increased the load to 10/60 4759/H4198 2777 fps .This is more what I was looking for so that I can shoot them at longer ranges. I ran the bullets thru an rcbs .450" sizing die and reduced them from .4505" to .4503" which made them load without driving them down.

Guys I was with Jerry at the range earlier this week. And can tell this gun will stack um up. And old Jerry is a pretty darn good shot.
