Going to try it. Brother in laws and father in law used to always rabbit hunt with dogs all the time. Thinking about inviting them out to see if we can kick any up in the fence rows. I'm not a rabbit hunter but it maybe fun. My question is how good will it be without dogs?

Not easy. Walk quietly so you don't spook rabbits too far ahead of you. Stop freqeuently and stand still for 1-2 minutes at a time. The rabbits will spook when they think they are busted, often, you are standing right next to them and never will a rabbit spook when you expect one to. It is always at the moment you least expect and you must keep your gun ready at all times. It's hard to maintain concentration for that long. If your gun is not in a position to immediately shoot, the rabbit will be gone. It's usually about a 1 second window.

Poser hit it dead on. I use to hunt a field by house in Florida when I was a kid we would walk it and kick them up some times it would take 3 or 4 times kicking them up before you could get a shot off. But it is still a lot of fun.

We rabbit hunt fences rows and R.R tracks and kill quite a few rabbits doing this.Usually 2-3 guys. Shooting can be fast and furious!

Poser basiclly hit nail on the head about hunting without a hound, but a big downside will be since your busting rabbits out of cover most(maybe all)your shoots will be at them running away from you so chances of damaging meat go up. If your kicking brush make sure someone is in position to shoot.

All that being said if you think it could be fun without a dog trying it with good dogs will have you hooked!!! Good luck!

I finally got one last week because it jumped and I saw it stop behind a bush a few yards away. Shot thru the bush and he was toast. I had jumped him on my way in that morning but no shot because I wasn't even expecting to see a rabbit. Overgrown fence rows are good and so are crp fields and cedar thickets.
