The 12# at Gander is a Weston grinder. I have one and have processed a few deer with it. Imo, it is a little cumbersome, in that you have to cut the meat into small chunks and usually have to use the included plunger to push in the meat. My wife would not allow me to use her kitchen Aid but the attachment for it appears to be comparable to the Weston. This year, I bought a 32# manual grinder from harbor freight and drive it with a 1/2 hp electric motor. My wife no longer curses me when it is time to process a deer.

So I went and got a grinder off the web. Soon's I have some pic's and a story to tell, I'll post up a thread.

I know 2 guys that ruined their wives KA mixers by purchasing the grinder attachment and burning up the motor. It was only designed to do small batch recipe stuff, not volumes of meat. It can cost you a ton more in replacement cost of a new mixer.

That's great! Everyone is talking about Weston. To bad I'm through deer hunting for the year. It will be a while before I use it.

Why? You'll never have to buy ground meat at the store again.

This page is showing that grinder for a lot cheaper.

This is the one I have. I've put about 30 pounds of venison and made 45 pounds of summer sausage with mine this fall. It's a good unit. It sucks for stuffing though. I manual stuffer is a LOT more efficient.

From what I understand, LEM's components are made of plastic and aren't designed to be fixed or replaced. I'm told Weston offers replacement parts for those that ever fail.

And for the money, I think the 575W (0.8 HP) is probably a more appropriate value.

I just visited the Weston website and yes they offer all replacement parts for the meat grinders

I'm not sure if the one I bought at Gander Mountain is the #12, but it has a 3/4 hp, stainless steel, commercial grade and does a awesome job. It will grind as fast as I can feed it. I would recommend it to anyone. I bought it on sale about 2 yrs ago and is one of my best investments ever.

The stainless steel grinder that you bought from Gander Mtn is a beast and the sale price was fantastic. You will not need to replace it for a LONG time, if ever.
