Never owned a bow. Not much time to use one while I was in the army.
Anyways.. with too much time on my hands, I was looking through craigslist.

I purchased a Parker wildfire xp.. few arrows, nice sights. Overall good shape.

Are these decent bows? Worth hanging onto... or maybe sell and get something a little better?

It will make a great bow to learn with and see if you like bows before dropping a big chunk of money. I would have someone go over it real good and set it up to your draw length

VERY important. if the bow don't fit, you'll have problems. a good coach would be helpful too.

Spot on as stik said, having it the proper drawlength is absolutely the most important part. If it isn't sized correctly it is the same thing as wearing the wrong size shoes and trying to compete in track and field events. Getting an experienced mentor to show you the basics will greatly reduce the learning curve, because if you start with bad form and habits it can make your archery experience very frustrating. Good luck and welcome to the world of archery.

Its a fewbinchesnto short in length. I need a 30 in draw.this one is 27. I have a good friend who is sponsored and shoots. Gonna work with him a bit. I was just worried I bought a turd. Just seemed like a low price.

Good that you have someone that can show you the basics. You may already know this but you will have to change modules to get the correct draw length—that can be somewhat problematic, especially on less-common bows. Your best bet is to check a shop near you and also check places like archery talk for the correct module.

I have owned four Wildfire XP. I have killed a bunch of deer and won several local tourny's with that bow. THey have a little over a 8 inch brace height and are a very forgiving bow.

THis is a great bow for anyone to shoot, novice or veteran.

Yep plus you get a lot more deer season and in many cases you can shoot in your backyard.
