I picked up a s&w 429 with a vortex scope . I am having trouble seeing trough the scope . To get the full field of view I have to streach the gun out as far in front of me as I can then the field of view is still small.this is my first ever scoped handgun . So I am rather green on the subject. I have no problem with the recoil of the 44mag so I'd perfer to have it set up to where I can keep the gun tucked in to me a little closer such as in a tree stand and have a larger field of view through the scope . Would a low power rifle scope work ? Or should I look at other pistol scopes ?

The vortex crossfire 2x20 pistol scope has a 20 inch eye relief which seems a bit long to me.

I don't know of any rifle scopes with an ER for that distance. Using a scoped pistol is an entirely different animal from rifle when it comes to looking through the scope.

I was fortunate that my first slug gun had a barrel mounted scope, Leupold M8 2x. So, when I got into handgun hunting with a scope it was second nature for me.

Most LER scopes have a certain amount of adj. in them just like a reg. rifle scope, try adj. the distance in towards yourself and see if it makes a difference. You should be able to pull the gun up and have it spot on and looking through the scope with little to no monkeying around moving it back and forth to find the FOV.
