Just acquired a Win 94 and the lever seems to have a lot more play in it than my 336. It is pretty loose with it open and closed. Is this normal?

Loose as in it falls open when closed? or side to side movement? or play between the lever finger and the bolt?

If its side to side wiggle its completely normal. All of the 94's are that way. The bolt will still lock up tight. The up and down play is normal because 94's have an extra safety feature where you have to squeeze up on the lever to depress a plunger to allow the rifle to fire.

Thanks for the replies. Yes it locks tight but the lever still has side-to-side play in it. Little much for my liking but guess this is the norm.
