The only reason we hear his name every 10 minutes is because he's the newest thing in nascar. He's won in F1 he's won in Indy cars. NASCAR was a step down for him he's won everywhere else. He doesnt need the money.
But NASCAR needs the diversity if it wants to continue to grow.
But A lot of folks hate him and it's not just because of his driving style. I have heard him compared to tony Stewart back in the days when he came up.
It's 99% because he not from around here. He's from south of the border ...way south of the border.
I want to puke when I listen to some of the idiots on the call in shows. They think their being slick with their made up little names for JPM. And most of them just sound plain racist. Is it any wonder NASCAR fans are still looked upon as hicks and white trash by many.
But if your going to hate JPM don't hate for who he is or where he's from. Hate him because he's not you favorite driver.
NASCAR HAS COME ALONG WAY BUT SOME OF IT'S FANS STILL SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF STUPID REDNECKS.
I am rapidly becoming a fan of his. The odds are stacked against him but he will get better and is going to win.
Unless he just says F-it and walks away. Because as I said he doesnt need NASCAR.

I like you so please take this NOT as a personal insult. But I disagree with you at least 90%. I am one of those who don't like Montoya. But it has NOTHING to do with where he comes from. I was actually very excited to see him come to this sport. Much like I was when Tony Stewart came over.
I thought it would only help the sport, and perhaps my driver, be better. But so far what has montoya done? Wreck his OWN teammate to get a win, wreck a BUNCH of other cars to not win.
He has 1 win in Nascar, a big deal, but it was done on fuel mileage, thats a crew chief win more than the driver. When I was at Charlotte and he wrecked several cars in the ALL star race then said "I wrecked, get over it" It cemented fears I had.
It's my opinion, but........... I feel that Juan is used to dominating race leagues. But you can not come into Nascar and do that, other parts of the world think you can, but it has been proven you can't. Nigel Mansel did it to INDY, Michael Andretti was a HUGE flop in F1, but no one has come into Nascar and whooped up the vets. I wonder if Juan thought he could, then started racing his car way past it's capibilities in order to march to the front.
I think he's a great race car driver, I think he'll win races, compete for championships. But I don't like what he's doing now, and it has absolutely no bearing on where he comes from. It's what he's doing out there that I don't like.

I'm not working now so I listen to SERIUS NASCAR radio a lot.
There does seem to be an overwhelming number of JPM haters who call in. If you listen the majority of them you can tell they hate JPM because of where he's from.. Oh the mention his driving style. But there is also a lot name calling. Beaner.Juan taco mon taco, wetback, and several others that are not very flattering. I can understand some of this to a point. But if your mad at him for his driving style don't take it there.
Now that may not be the case with most of the drivers,but there is some resentment from a few.
And don't forget he is a NASCAR rookie. This round and round is all new to him. A win is a win fuel mileage or not. One of the reasons I don't care for road racing.
Well I like road racing overall. I just hare to see any race decided by fuel mileage. Run what you brung and if it's not fast enough you lose.
Tony and Jeffy are better road course racers in Stock cars at this point though.
As you said he will get better but he's is making a lot of enemies along the way. JPM needs to learn a little patience and he'll be fine.
