On clearance for 259. Anyone had any experience with them? Looking for good one that will last. May have to go with LEM if these aren't any count

My stepdad has an LEM and it has been a good one. But I would highly recommend giving the Weston line a look. All of their products seem to be top of the line and if you are only doing 5-6 deer a year then their consumer grade will work just fine.

From what I understand, LEM's components are made of plastic and aren't designed to be fixed or replaced. I'm told Weston offers replacement parts for those that ever fail.

And for the money, I think the 575W (0.8 HP) is probably a more appropriate value.

I can not vouch for the higher end grinders as I have never owned nor used one (cost)

I can speak for the one I purchased and have used on a very regular basis, not only to process my deer every yr. but for other food projects throughout the yr. as well.

I purchased a 800w/1 hp grinder at Dick's @ 8yrs. ago, it is made by Sunmile. It is a grinding fool for the money...........@$60.00. Easy to assemble and clean, and I have never had one single problem with it in the 8 yrs. If it should crap out, I will purchase another one just like it.

The customer reviews vary as like most products, but it has an overall rating of 4+ out of 5.

They offer larger versions as well and can be found on Ebay.

I've been switching all of my processing equipment to Weston -its the best on the market and very reasonably priced. I just replaced my grinder with a Weston.

Sounds like weston is the Cadillac. I bout the gander one because of the sale price. If I utilize it like I think I will when it dies I will go weston.

I have been using the Kitchen Aid grinding attachment for my Wife's mixer. Does the job but I noticed it would warm the motor up to the point I would shut it down.

So I went and got a grinder off the web. Soon's I have some pic's and a story to tell, I'll post up a thread.

The 12# at Gander is a Weston grinder. I have one and have processed a few deer with it. Imo, it is a little cumbersome, in that you have to cut the meat into small chunks and usually have to use the included plunger to push in the meat. My wife would not allow me to use her kitchen Aid but the attachment for it appears to be comparable to the Weston. This year, I bought a 32# manual grinder from harbor freight and drive it with a 1/2 hp electric motor. My wife no longer curses me when it is time to process a deer.

I know 2 guys that ruined their wives KA mixers by purchasing the grinder attachment and burning up the motor. It was only designed to do small batch recipe stuff, not volumes of meat. It can cost you a ton more in replacement cost of a new mixer.

That's great! Everyone is talking about Weston. To bad I'm through deer hunting for the year. It will be a while before I use it.

Why? You'll never have to buy ground meat at the store again.

This page is showing that grinder for a lot cheaper.

This is the one I have. I've put about 30 pounds of venison and made 45 pounds of summer sausage with mine this fall. It's a good unit. It sucks for stuffing though. I manual stuffer is a LOT more efficient.

I'm not sure if the one I bought at Gander Mountain is the #12, but it has a 3/4 hp, stainless steel, commercial grade and does a awesome job. It will grind as fast as I can feed it. I would recommend it to anyone. I bought it on sale about 2 yrs ago and is one of my best investments ever.

The stainless steel grinder that you bought from Gander Mtn is a beast and the sale price was fantastic. You will not need to replace it for a LONG time, if ever.

I have ground dozens of deer with mine over the years. I started with my first unit over 20 years ago, (its still running), and about 5 years ago bought a new, larger unit, I have since burned the gears in it twice in two years. They just dont make them like they used too. \:\(

I've been using my wife's KA for several years. I do one to three a year on it. I cube the meat and get it almost frozen and then run it through.

Never had any issues.

If I start laying down some hogs, I will probably spring for a bigger one.
