Been working on getting this together for a couple of days now. I have scheduled and confirmed with Richard (owner of Meadowbrook Game Farm), that Saturday Feb. 8th will be ours for the entire day! Jan. was already full, and the 8th was the only Saturday in Feb. that was completely open. I didn't want to schedule on into March, as the 'vous is scheduled then....plus they could run out of birds by then as well. For those of you that were not here last year, please take a look at Meadowbrook's web page here: http://www.meadowbrookgamefarm.com/

I for one had a Great time on last years hunt. Got to put faces with some screen names, and made some wonderful friends to boot. The hunt AND the food were top notch as well. I can't wait to do it again. Unless there are any objections, I think we will stick to the ratio of birds that we had last year (50% Pheasant, 30% Chukkar, and 20% Quail). Made for a great hunt mixing it up like that, imo.

Remember folks, we get "bonus" birds for every 10 hunters that we have. Richard says that he could accomodate up to 30 people if need be. Best I remember, we had around 25 or so people there last year, with 18 or 19 hunting. I'd like to see that number go up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them up. Myself or some of the guys that hunted last year will try to answer them. We'll give it a couple of days before we start a list of who will be there. Please check your schedule (and your spouse's schedule ;\) ) before putting your name on the list. When we get about a week or so from the date, we'll see who can hunt the morning/evening. Many thanks for looking at this. I hope to see a big turnout! Man, I can't wait......

Probably an hour or less. Hwy 231 North out of Lebanon to Westmoreland. Meadowbrook is about 15 minutes West from there.

Gallatin has many to choose from, and it's about 12 to 14 miles from the farm. Portland has a few (a new one at the Hwy 52 exit off I65N) that are about 10 or so miles away.

Gallatin has quite a bit more restaurants to choose from though.

Hunt is $125 plus tax. Cleaning and packaging is extra (can't remember for sure, but not very costly). Plus, I always tip the guide, doesn't mean that you have too of course. All in all, I would say be prepared to spend $150 or so.

Btw, a Tn hunting license IS NOT required.

I think we spent $145 last year for everything including cleaning plus tax. It wasn't bad for how great the hunt was and how nice the people are.

Really enjoyed meeting Diehard, Bow Hunter, BigSatt, WGK, Nimrod, and a bunch of others last year.
Dogs are superb and really a treat to watch them work.

Money well spent last year, 10/10.
Count me in again.

I went to that place once and was a little disappointed. The dogs were fantastic and the highlight of the hunt, but the guide (an older gentleman I think was wanting to get home) was wanting me and the other three guys I was "hunting" with to shoot the birds-- even if they were on the ground. Loved the meat I got but left feeling a little odd--just not very sporting for the money I spent.

Over the years, I've hunted at Meadowbrook over 25 times. Not once have I left feeling odd. No, I've always left there with the satisfaction of having a great hunt with old and new friends alike. A feeling of anticipation of when I might get to go back. I mean after all, you don't find Pheasant and Chukkar in the wild around Tennessee(not many Quail anymore either) unless you visit one of these places, and I don't know of a better one. These folks have been in this business since 1950. They know a thing or two about hosting this type of hunt, with some great Southern hospitality to boot. As I stated earlier in this thread, I can't wait!

Recoil, why don't you come and hunt with us in a bigger group? The hunt is definitely at a slower pace. You will get to spend more time afield, get to meet some new friends, and have a good meal right off the grill.

BigSatt,
I haven't been checking the general forum for a while but you can count me plus 2 others in for the hunt. Morning or afternoon are fine for us. I got to hunt last year and had a great time and met a bunch of great people. I felt like the guides worked hard to accommodate us all and the dogs were great to see work. If your looking for something a little more "sporting" then I guess you could spend 10 times the cost to go somewhere with natural habitat. For me it was more than worth the money and you'll get to meet people from one of the best hunting forums on the net.

Could we post this in some of the other topics temporarily to get a little more publicity Ruger? Also, last year there was a running tally of those planning to go that helped IMO. I loose track of the posts at the top sometimes

I sure had a great time last year and will be there this year as well. I enjoy hunting with and meeting some good people from this site and hunting in the snow last year was a good time, and don't get me started on how good the food was. And a big thank's to BigSatt for setting this up.

We are needing several more people to keep the whole day booked. I talked with Richard Thursday, and he has several groups booking hunts. He would never ask me to give up a morning or evening, but I don't want to do him that way. If we are not gonna have at least 18 to 20 shooters, then I believe the fair thing to do would be to let another group have the morning or evening. Fellars, I ask that you please pm some of your buddies on here and/or contact your personal friends to see if they are interested. The hunt is 27 days from today. Let's make a decision no later than the 25th (13 days from today) on whether we should keep the whole day or not. Thanks for everyone's interest so far.

I would love to take my dad on this hunt but he cant get around very well these days. Do they have any provisions for old and fat? I know that sounds mean but that's the truth. His knee's won't allow him to walk but a couple hundred yards on flatish ground.

Hey BigSatt! I tried sending you a pm but your box is full. I cant go on the Pheasant hunt with you guys this year. I have not worked in a month and just cant justify $300.00(entry fee and fuel there and back). I do hope you guys have a blast. I have done this type hunt a few times years ago and they are fun.
Maybe next year.

Folks, please post up and update your hunt status (morning/afternoon hunt and total # of people you will be bringing). Thanks.

Also, we need to decide if we are going to do any cooking. Thanks again.

We will have food again this year.
Any proceeds above the cost of food will be donated to Vanderbilt children hospital like last year.

Does anyone know if a Hunt-Fish license is required to go on the Pheasant Hunt.
Looking for informed information.
Thanks. Paul

Paul, I have been hunting at Meadowbrook for over 20 years, and a hunting license is not required.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and doing a little hunting together. Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I will find out. Just give me a couple days to contact Richard. Thanks.

I'm just gonna quit saying I will go to this thing. I was reminded on Friday that I have plans with another member and then before I left for school the organizer reminded me that I had signed up to work the annual TNT Tournament that day, then I get home and my daughter reminds me that we have a father daughter dance that evening. Maybe next year....

If ya'll wanna come watch some middle school basketball games come on out to the TNT Tournament.

I have to call Richard tomorrow(Friday) and give him an idea of how many people will be hunting the morning/evening, so that he can prepare accordingly (number of dogs, handlers, field crew, etc.). Since I need to make that call before I have to be at work at 2:00pm, please let me know which hunt you prefer if you haven't already. We can still add hunters right up until the time of the hunts. So if someone lets you know Friday night that they want to join us, tell them to come on as that will be fine.

Something else that we haven't talked about. Please bring some orange with you (shirt, vest, hat, etc) to wear on your person while we are in the field, as we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable hunt. You may want to wear some sort of pack boots or rubber boots also, as we have had quite a bit of rain in Northern Middle Tennessee this week.

Fellers, I just got home from work a little over an hour ago. I'm fixing to lay down and try to get some rest, as I plan on getting up early today to go and get the grill for Saturday's hunt before I go to work. If at all possible, please chime in on whether you need to hunt the morning or evening. If not, I'm not sure how many to tell him (Richard....owner of Meadowbrook) for each hunt when I talk to him early this afternoon. Please let me know. Thanks.

BigSatt, some weather forecasts are calling for some overnight snow (not that I put a lot of faith in weather predictions). I don't think it will be a problem but to cover the just in case possibility, here's my phone number: 615-483-3617.

I am about 2 hours away from Meadowbrook, so I if there is a change in plans I will need to know by around 6:00 a.m. So if things change and you don't get a note posted here early, please give me a call. If I don't see a note here or get a call, I'll head on up there - assuming of course that there aren't "do not travel" warnings.

TNCharlie and Paul, unfortunately I don't think there will be any other available dates to postpone to this year, as they are booked through March now on Saturdays. They will run out of birds for the season about then as well.

Our hunt(s) will go off as planned tomorrow, however please use your own discretion about traveling. If you are not confident in getting out on the roads, then don't. As much as I look forward to meeting up and hunting with ya'll, I want everyone to be safe. Thanks.

Well I had a great time again this year, BigSatt is top noch and put on a great hunt again this year. The weather keep some at home but I did get to meet and hunt with TnCharlie ans Paul Burns and his stepson, great people. And Waynesworld and family put together one heck of a lunch as always, and thanks for the bbq sauce the wife really likes it. The people that own Meadowbrook Farms and the guides are also great people and put on a real nice hunt, 16 birds up and 16 down not bad for a 4 bird limit per hunter. Heck I'm already looking forward to next year. Thanks again Kevin.

BigSatt the HUNT MASTER.
Well now I know how you got your title and well deserved it is, you organized a great hunt. Really appreciate you getting this together.
My boy and had a chance to visit on the way back to Nashville and talked about everything ---we enjoyed meeting everyone, the host, guides, Waynesworld and family, and especially Jimmy White and his three dogs. Something about watching good bird dogs.
Been an great and safe day for us. Life is good.
Thanks again.

Ditto Bow Hunter's and Paul's notes. I really had a great time. The hunt was good; the food was good; the people were good. Heck, even the dogs were good! There was just enough snow to add to the adventure. Yes, I want to do this again next year.

Thanks to the organizers!

Turned out to be another GREAT day afield. I do enjoy getting to meet new folks, sharing a meal, and doing a little hunting together. Bow Hunter, it was great to see you again my friend. Waynesworld and family (Daniel too), thanks for preparing another tasty meal for us. Charlie, Paul, and Cary, I'm so proud I got to meet ya'll. Fine folks from West Tn for sure. Jwin, many thanks to you and all of your buds that made the trip. And thanks to the good Lord above for allowing all of us to have a safe and enjoyable hunt together! I hope to see all of you again very soon. Gonna try to get a few pics up in the next couple of days. Thanks again to everyone that attended and to those that have shown interest in this type hunt. Hopefully, we can do it again in the future.
