I'd hate to know how many days I've sat in a tree... bow in hand... waiting for the right moment to finally happen. I said I'd not rifle hunt because it felt too much like cheating. But with the end of the season looming on the horizon, even the most steadfast idealist rethinks things. I coulda taken my bow today... but opted for the rifle (in the end, either would have worked).

I'd simply say you've become more of a hunter than an enthusiast for a particular weapon. Like you said, you could have taken this deer regardless of the weapon.

CONGRATULATIONS! \:\)

Congrats on a great first deer! And it doesn't really make a huge difference which weapon you killed it with. It's your first deer (and buck) and you'll never forget that experience!

Although I'm going to have to show your picture (including the nice earrings) to my daughter, as I think she's a bit worried that being a "killer" makes her less of a "girlie girl." I believe she's worried that boys will be intimidated by a girl (or find one less attractive) who loves to hunt and is skilled with a gun.

there is nothing wrong in teaching a girl to shoot like a man, nor to carry her own weight in the outdoors, there are many places for these females and they will be highly successful in real life

I used to work with an interior designer that made moonshine and was an avid successful deer hunter. She was beautiful too.

My daughter believes the boys are intimidated when she shows them my trophy room, especially when they ask, "What goes there?" regarding the single nail taking up the space of a deer mount.

Real men should appreciate a lady who knows how to shoot, even more if she knows how to hunt. IMO, talking about your shooting and hunting is a good way to sort them out.

Looks like you made out like a bandit! \:\) I take my niece and nephew out shooting sometimes and squirrel hunting although they are very young still. I don't look at hunting, fishing, shooting (anything) as a "manly" sport. I think everyone should know how to do it just incase life ever takes a turn for the worst. I've been along for a lot of younger folks first deer in my short time and there's nothing much like it. I also got the opportunity to walk my sisters first deer to her \:D Ahh... good times.

Congrats and may it be the first of many. Tried for years to get my wife into it and she will not. Bought my daughter a lifetime license when she was born almost 14 years ago and struck out with her too. Thankfully I had a son and he tags along and does most of the shooting these days. Congrats again!

I wonder if more women would be into hunting if they saw more women participating? Thoughts, anyone?

I'm sure they would. Seeing other women not only participating but being successful. Sure they would.

NM, congratulations on the deer and props to your dad for getting you interested.

In regard to women hunting: there is nothing cooler than that and I'm glad it's becoming more and more common.

In regard to your pics I will just say you are gorgeous and leave it at that. \:\)

I've been telling my daughter that pretty girls hunt too. Saw a pic of one of you guys daughters (cute blonde 11-13 with braces) who took a deer, which got my daughter fired up. Been trying to convince my wife of the same thing.

She fusses about the time that I spend on here from time to time but never really paid any attention to what I'm doing. Showed her the pic with the deer and then went to the next page...she seems to be paying more attention what I'm reading on here... ;\)

Gentlemen, I have an announcement to make!

"Nevermind" has agreed to speak at the 2014 Tndeer.com Rendezvous. She will be addressing the group on "Women in the Outdoors".

I encourage you to bring your wives and daughters to hear her message. She will motivate them to get "out of doors".

More information to follow.

Now you're actually going to get me to come to the 'Vous again. I'll bring my daughter to hear Nevermind speak.

Melissa Bachman flat out hunts most men. This girl right here has been hunting and fishing since she was a little girl.

I laugh when people try to say she's just a pretty gal Mathews picked to endorse their bows...WRONG. She's a certified killer,

The rifle in the pic is the one I won in the raffle at the vous last year. She shot her deer with a Ruger M77 243 with the bull barrel and bi-pod \:\)

Got a friend of mine, 31yr old female, out hunting a couple of times this year. She had deer at 80 yards from her and she nutted up and couldn't shoot. I think had it been a bit warmer than 27 deg she might have felt better about the shot. She sure likes to eat them and I told her she needs to fill a tag if she wants more! haha

Shooting is an awesome way to connect with your daughter, mine absolutely loves it. Started with the Red Ryder then pellet rifle, 22lr, 22 mag, and now the 22-250. I fill 2 liter coke bottles with water and let her shoot them with the 22-250, that's what I call fun. Sorry if I hijacked I was just thinking about your question of exposing women to the outdoors.
Congratulations on the buck.

Is there a forum on here for us to keep it up with the ladies of all ages showing their skills in shooting?

Congrats again!

I wonder if more women would be into hunting if they saw more women participating? Thoughts, anyone?
