You can't really understand what it's like to kill a hog with dogs on it until you've done it. I understand that killing a hog with a knife is not legal but if you've dogs caught on a hog you don't have much choice. People think of it as a heroic and dangerous thing to do but you just simply cannot shoot "in amongstem" without risk of shooting a dog.
Would you shoot in this situation? I would hope not! And btw, my post is not toward anyone in particular. Just trying to make folks understand why sometimes a knife is the best choice. \:\)

I can understand your point, but if your close enough to use a knife your close enough to use a handgun legal to take big game with.

But how do you know where that bullet is gonna go? It could exit and still hit a dog. It never mattered to me since most of my hog hunting was done in other states where you could kill them however you wanted (I live close to Georgia). I'm just saying that guns and dogs that are attached don't mix. Either one can move in a split second, no one had better shoot a gun when my dogs safety were at risk. Hog dogs get cut up enough, don't need them shot on top of that!

This really sounds like a rule change is needed. I think I'll mention it during the season setting public input deal.

Is the land owner still in need of a permit with all the authorized hunters listed with twra? No need to get him in trouble also.

How would the land owner get in trouble?

It is a pain in the rear sometimes but it's worth it to avoid problems. The landowner doesn't need a permit to hunt hogs though.
