A buddy that's on the lease went hunting with his wife this evening and was trying to help her get her first deer when he was walking threw some thick cover with his gun on his shoulder when he tripped and gun came off shoulder and fell over him some how it went off and a 270 bullet went threw the top of his foot he was tore up but doing OK they flew his to UT do to the amount of blood he lost. So keep him in your prayers

Hope he'll be alright. Similar fate happened to me 4 years ago with my browning a-bolt 270. Strap came unscrewed from gun while climbing ladder stand. Gun fell to the ground and fired. This scared the hell out of me. Back stock broke in half and I was upset and fortunate to say the least. An old timer on straw plains fixed the rifle for at a reasonable price.

I personally don't load my gun till I'm sitting and hunting. I had a guy on our lease slip and fall and the gun went off. No injury thank The Lord.

Curious on why you would even think about climbing into a stand with a loaded gun? You must have missed that part of the HS class.

Wow, that is horrible. I hate it for the guy and hope that he pulls through with a full recovery!

All the safety rules we learned (or should have learned) were taught to us for a purpose. I have been around people at times who took shortcuts and were often offended when I confronted them about it. Never take safety shortcuts. Hunting is statistically a very safe sport, but it is also one of the few sports that can be deadly. Whether it is gun safety, treestand safety or something else, always take the time to do the right thing and protect yourself as well as the other people around you. I have learned the hard way with a treestand fall several years ago. Contrary to what some of us believe, or believed at one time, we are not invincible. As a matter of fact, we are all pretty dang fragile when it gets right down to it.

Sorry for the rant, I meant no offense to the original poster or to his friend. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Yeah not the smartest move by any means. ii was stalking all the way to my stand and just started climbing the ladder when I got there. I was fortunate and it got me back on the right path. Sometimes being complacent is definitely not a good thing. I've been hunting many years and that scared the hell out of me.

Hope you buddy is doing well!

Wow. I'm impressed he fared this well. The prayers had to have helped. Upon reading your initial post, I saw no way he would be able to retain any more than his heel.

That's what we thought the bullet went in about 3in above his toe and went straight down I guess being so close and using the sliver ballistic tip bullet went threw so fast entry hole was size of bullet exit was about the size of a nickel
