Per what we were discussing...
Go to 30-06 Outdoors and look for the 2nd Man HD Kit Ladder Stand Hoist. My buddy got the HD(heavy duty and recommends you do the same). I think they sell for about $100.00. When you use the plates with the spikes that hold the base of the ladder stand secure you can either leave them with the stand or remove them for use on other stands. You can buy the extra bases if you wish. This thing makes the job of putting up ladder stands up to 20' high a piece of cake compared to wrestling with them by hand.

I bought one of these last year and it works. Just be careful when you are cranking it up and watch the handle so that it doesen't get into the strap. I did this and was busy watching the Stand and cut the strap that goes around the tree with the handle and the stand fell to the ground. Sort of a design failure. You can crank it without hitting the strap but sometimes it gets difficult to do.

Night and day compared to doing it by hand....going up or coming down. I own 1 ladder stand but it's a single pole 20 footer that's different from any other ladder stand. It's pretty easy for 1 man to put up and everything is done from the ground including tying it off to the tree. When you climb it it's to hunt. If I did have any regular type ladder stands I guarantee you I'd own a HD 2nd man.

The way it works is...you strap the winch to the tree and let out enough strap to hook to a ladder rung close to the top. It comes with 2 flat pieces of metal. On 1 side is a spike and on the other is a swiveling peg. Put the stand together on the ground and position the bottom of the ladder where it'll stand at the base of the tree when it's up. Stick the spike in the ground and raise the leg of the ladder to put the peg inside the channel of the ladder. This holds the base of the stand in place while the stand is going up and the swiveling leg allows the base of the stand to swivel from a horizontal position to an upright position. Then just crank it up until it's leaning against the tree, climb up, and strap her down. Reverse that for lowering. It helps to have another guy to help guide it up and get it off the ground initially but you don't have to have them.
