I've been a die hard Remington 870 guy since I started duck hunting in college, I have a 870 Super Mag now but I have never liked it. I short shuck it almost every time so I'm wanting to convert to a semi-auto that shoots 3.5" shells. I prefer black synthetic stock but would consider any if the deal is right. My 870 is for sale or trade too. Im getting older and lazier and I don't care about how much more of a purest I thought I was shooting a pump action. Frankly I've thought of going back to an old 870 that shoots 3" but all my buddies have learned to shoot out to 60yds+ now and one needs a hot 3.5" shell to get out that far I think.

I would take a look at the Stoeger 3500. I have one and it will cycle about anything I cram in it. You should be able to pick one up for around $600-$650 in camo and about $100 cheaper in black. They come with 4 chokes, recoil reducer you can install for the 3 1/2's and a shim kit in the box.

Remington SPR 453. It's the Baikal hybrid and very economical. Only down side is that it takes Baikal (not Rem)tubes, but you can order them from Carlsons.

Browning Maxus. Softest, best shooting gun I have ever had. Feels great in the hands. You can get it in Wood, Synthetic black or camo.

I have shouldered the stoegers and they just don't fit me and IMO they are bulky. I ended up buying an 870 but if funds were right I was looking at a Franchi Affinity (It is a 3 inch gun though).

One of the guys I hunt with has a Baikal and likes it pretty well.
