I guess every crossbow has strengths and weaknesses. I want to know what models most people are satisfied, and dissatisfied with. I would love to shoot the fastest x-bow possible, just to get a flatter trajectory.
Bowriter, From what you wrote about the Stryker, I don’t plan to buy one because I trust your judgment. No one else seems to brag on them either.

I am looking for the best combination of:
Reliability
Accuracy
Speed
Price

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Reliability, Accuracy, Speed, Price???
Horton, Excal or 10-point, depend on your price range.

IMO,,, A good x-bow for the money(budget price) - A Horton HD 175 and that is what I have for NOW.

If I had money to blow I would get a 10-point Phantomn CLS.

Barnett Reveloution, price the same comparable than the horton and cheaper than a Excal. and ten point.

Speed wise faster than any Horton i ever shot with and it's 150 or 160lb draw weight, depending on the model Rev. is faster than the 225 lb. draw Exc.

Figure 75 lb less pressure would be more durable than 75lb more?

Barnetts shot a 2 inch longer arrow, more accurate than a shorter one.

Accuracy... i shot mine a lot last year off sandbags to take my error out of the groups and could keep the groups inside of 4 inches at 60 yds. Accurate enough?

Now with all that said, this is from my experance only, the only other brand i have shot was a Horton, so i can only compare mine to it. Let me put it this way, after my friend and i both shot he is wanting to trade his Horton in for a Barnett. It out performed the horton bith in speed and accuracy.

I am sure that any brand is ok, just find one that suits you, and the Barnett does it for me. Hope this gives you another look into buying?

Yes indeed. I personally lean toward the Excalibur for simplicity but not everyone considers that high on priority.

Barnett Quad 400 at 345fps...........Look at the new model for this year, they have a coating on the limbs like the Sims Limbsaver material, supposed to quieten them down a lot with no speed loss.

here's a story on one I would avoid:
http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2259110

While I'm aware of lots of happy B-nett owners, they were in receivership for about 2-3 weeks this spring, there were alot of people who couldn't get a call thru or replies to emails about parts they needed or bows in for work. I read on all the xbow forums I can find [21] and they are the most problematic of all the top name ones out there. I personally had a Quad 400 blow up while I was shooting it, once was enough for me. Cabelas and Bass Pro had quit offering them, don't know about now, hopefully they will get their act together.

Avoid the Horton Legacy at all costs. That thing is junk. I bought mine new form Bass Pro and shot it 4-times and the string started to break because the string stoppers was destroying the string. Theys ent me new ones and now they wont stay on. They fly about 15 feet everytime you shoot it. I paid over 700 for that thing and have shot it about 20 times and I am now returning it to Bass Pro............

My brother has a Horton HD175 he seem to like it. I shot it several times helping him get it dialed in and I liked it expect for the scope riser. It has a knob you can turn to raise the scope for a further distance. His scope already had distance lines in it so the scope riser is not nessecery. And I dont like my scope moving at all. So he super glued it in the low position and just uses the step lines in the scope. It was very accurate even out to 60 yards.

Yep +2.... I have both an excalibur Exocet 200 & a horton 150.... both are good but the excal is the best no Question...

scpatterson - have you simply tried to remove those string suppressors from your xbow. I've recently read on the Excalibur forum where the owner of Excalibur posted regarding the STS string suppressor designed for the Excalibur. He said they extensively tested them trying to decide on whether to carry them as an accessory. He said they quickly found out the rubber stoppers on them only last a few shots. If I'm remembering correctly somewhere around 50 shots or so. I'd try removing them completely and just shoot the xbow. There should be no harm in it at all. It will probably be slightly louder than before - but that deer won't care much at all as he's getting slammed with an arrow around 330 fps \:D

If you do try it - post back your results.........
