I guess I am either dumb as a rock or brave. As is, I would have climbed up and hunted out of it if I had a harness and/or life line. I used to climb up and hang off limbs and have played in a treehouse or two when I was a kid. I wasn't a skinny kid either. \:\)

I'll say you're brave because I ain't dumb and i hunted out of the stand all season and it didn't creak, pop, or move the whole time. And 3 deer died because of it. \:D

keep a close check on it from year to year.....remember the tree is growing and will pull them nails or screws right through the wood!

It's still good this year, but I hung a life line to be extra safe. Probably wont hunt it next year, depends on the condition. It's a black cherry tree so will probably grow pretty quick

I'm going to be different and like the setup. I'm built about like catman, tall and skinny and around 135lbs. Just a little older. The only problem I've ever had with homemade stands it the steps. Some good redneck fabrication and overkill in supports make wooden stands go along way. I went by one of my old ones my dad built me when I was about 13 out if treated stuff and it still looked decent. I will have to get some pics of my "crows nest" stand. It a big ceader with the top out and my perch is around 30' up at the top and not a single step. It may be stupid to some but I was raised in the country playin outside climbing trees and what not.

A stand very similar to that put me in a wheel chair for about 4 months, and put just about every aspect of my life on hold for the better part of a year while I learned to walk again, it will be 14 years ago this Nov, and I still limp a little. Be careful and wear a good harness.

No way I'm knocking you stand. I used to hunt out of them. A guy me and Snake used to work with clum up in one he made one morning and never walked another day in his life. He died not too long after from the accident. All of his insides finally just shut down.
We had a lease in Wayne county years ago. The first year we had it I found a old stand like that. I bet you that sucker was 35 feet high. I sat and looked at it a long time and the devil finally talked me in to climbing it. I couldn't let go of the tree when I got up there and I promised God if he let me get down safe I would never do that again. He did and I ain't! Be careful bud.
