just go for it you'll get in trouble when you try to stop and never ever ever ever use you back brakes when going down a step hill. but more importantly know your limitations if you're not comfortable with it don't do it.

Do you leave it in low gear and let it go? Lean back on the machine? Tap the brakes at all? How does one get comfortable without doing it?

you don't get comfortable without doing it. but don't put yourself in a situation to get hurt. just I put in a low gear like 1st or 2nd always lean back. and tap the front brakes and if it is real step you can hold it down the hold time. it sounds like you're new to riding and start slow dont just jump in head first. start on less stepper stuff and go from there.

Thanks Deerhunter....actually been riding about a year and am getting more comfortable every day...

I don't look for extreme rides, but will go where I have to to recover deer that I can't drag....Had one a few weeks ago that required a fairly steep downhill run to get and felt better on the way back up with the deer on the front than I did empty on the way down...

Just looking for any tips and thanks for your thoughts....

Take your time and leave it in a lower gear. If you can take it in and out of 4-wheel drive make sure it is in 4WD. Touch the brakes as needed but I normally use my front brakes when on my 4-wheeler. My rhino is like a car so don't have a front brake lever but you can put it in 4WD low and lock the differential and it will crawl like a billy goat. Just be careful and if you're not comfortable don't do it.

Don't grab to much front brake or the atv will be on top of you before you know it. My advice would be to find the safest area you can. But don't be afraid of the rear brakes. Just don't lock them up. And be careful of the transition where the slope meets the flat. Sometimes this is the area that gets you.

don't like mine is 4wd when you're in 4wd it locks up all brakes if its in two will drive you have control of the front and rear brakes atleast going down hill.
