Wayne, I've got an 05 Chevy 2500 HD, 6 liter gas, 5 spd. 411 posi rear. It will pull my 25 ft. camper, or flatbed trailer with a 6k pound tractor and equipment with no problem.

Get you a 7.3 powerstroke and forget about it. Theres a reason there are way more Ford diesels on the road than dodge and chevys. Fyi the 7.3 is actuallly made by international.

I have a 1994 Cummings with 240,000 miles on it still runs like a new one and a 2002 Duramax LB7 with 80,000 miles on it. Hard to go wrong with A Diesel in my book. Do a little research though there are few bad years for Ford, Chevy and Dodge in the Diesels but other than that with a few minner modes you can get awesome MPG and Power

Some will probably get offended but I would stay away from any Duramax and that is NOT a slam against the Chevy guys! They simply just don't match up with the Ford or Dodge performance. You should be able to find "true" dyno numbers online and we all know, numbers don't lie! Lol

Just buy a 7.3 Ford or a dodge 2004.5 to 07 and leave it stock unless you've got money to spare. The mods may increase your mileage slightly but it will take a long time to get your money back. These trucks will pull anything you need to pull, and don't believe anyone that says they are getting much over 2o mpg.

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 w/ a Cummins .. hands down the best investment I have ever made as far as a vehicle is concerned. I plan on keeping this thing until its run into the ground, then rebuilding and running it into the ground again.

In my opinion, especially if this is going to be the last vehicle you buy, the difference in price between a new vehicle and a used one is narrow enough to just get a new one. When I bought my '12 I was able to get it for $38,000 .. and when you consider $25,000 for an older truck with 200k, the extra $13,000 is worth it for peace of mind.

Don't be afraid of the diesel. The engine will long outlast the transmission, bearings, transfer case, etc.. all things to be worried about on an older vehicle.

Also, another thing to consider on the Duramax is the hassle of DEF..

Curtis, that's not the engines I had in mind but ok... Lol :). I will say I'm a die hard Ford man but to be fair, me and my buddy's all pull the same vehicles to car shows, all the trucks (for the show) are the same except one is a crew cab. The tow trucks are all different, powerstrokes, duramax and cummins. The cummins pulls the crew cab (the heaviest) and none of us can hang with him! He does have a programmer though...

Any opinions on 2005 6.0 Powerstroke? Found a Lariat 4x4 with 90k for $24,900. Cosmetically it is perfect. And the wife loves the color.
