As fate would have it, my sons car died Halloween night. The plan was, when my wife graduated in the spring, we would buy me a new truck capable of towing a 25-35 ft camper and give my son my Nissan. Now I have been looking at used trucks and some of these prices seem ridiculous to me. 2008 Duramax with 200k miles for $25,000. It's hard for me to justify that kind of money for that many miles. Am I off-base with my thinking? With only an 18 mile commute to work, I was hoping this would be my last vehicle.

Ide hunt around for a good 7.3 power stroke. I've never had one but have heard horror stories when one goes into the shop to get worked on. $$$

Diesel's bring big $ new and used. How often do you plan on pulling a camper? Can you justify $125 oil changes $1200 worth of tires and $3.85 fuel? When u need a diesel, they cannot be beat but for something to go to and from work for the most part, there are better options out there.

As for how much the truck will be used to pull a camper, 2-3 week ends/month between May and November.

Get a ford with the 7.3 powerstroke. They are reliable and not as expensive to work on as the newer disels are. Oil change can be done for about $60.00 to $80.00 do this every 5k miles. Change fuel filter every 10k get this off of ebay cheaper. Then just drive the hound out of it they work better driven hard not just ease around town in. Mine has 268k miles on it and should still have several 100k miles to go. I hope to never have to go back to a gas burner again.

2004 cummins with 213,000-22 mpg.

I would highly recommend a diesel truck.

I bought mine with 40,000 for $21,000. I love mine and will smoke a lot of 7.3's on the road ;\) been there done that ;\)

Cummins is a great motor also I just cannot make myself like the truck body. You might have a little harder time smoking my 7.3 ;\)
